RULES
General Etiquette Be nice; don't be insulting, degrading or abusive to other members. Threats will not be taken lightly on this website and constant flaming may also result in a ban. Spam Spam is basically anything that is generally unconstructive or adds nothing to the topic at hand or the forums in general. To some extent, what is considered spam will vary moderator to moderator, but you generally tell if you're spamming if you answer 'is this a completely pointless post?' in the affirmative. Frequent spamming may result in infractions and/or a ban. Spamming includes posting successively in a thread in a short period of time instead of simply editing your original post (more on this in the FAQ section). Inappropriate Content Though this will also vary moderator to moderator, in general excessive swearing, explicit media, threats, racism, selling things, asking for anything illegal and the like will not be tolerated. Further, links to websites with such content is not appropriate. Depending on the gravity of the inappropriateness, you may get an infraction and/or a ban. Any racist language, gay-bashing, incites to violence, etc. will not be taken lightly. Though the word 'gay' and 'fag,' for example, is frequently used amongst immature 14 year olds or people who act like immature 14 year olds, you could easily express hostility or dismay in more intelligent means. Don't be an idiot. General Discussion The GD forum is quite broad, and you can generally tell if your thread belongs here if it doesn't belong in the other forums. The most frequent mistakes would be something explicitly bboy-related posted here when it would be more suitable for the Word Up forum. Also, if you are looking for bboy/bgirls in a certain city/area you are probably looking for the Hook Up forum. Repeat threads and Necroing Threads If you have a question or a topic that you think might have been asked or posted before, search the forums first. If you find a thread related to your topic but is too old, use your discretion. If you're looking for some current opinions then it might be appropriate to make a new thread, but if it's a discussion that can be picked up easily from where it left off, it might be appropriate to post in that thread. 'Necroing' refers to someone making a new post in a hella old thread. For example, someone responds to a 5 year old 'god vs science' debate to add something new. No point; no one is going to respond to a counterpoint you're raising to their 5 year old argument. Necroing old threads without good reason will be considered as spam and will be dealt with in a similar manner. Free Speech You will be penalized for breaking the rules. You don't have absolute free speech on bboy.org and moderators can edit your content if it is justified to do so. Bboy.org is a privately-owned site which you voluntarily signed up for, and in doing so, agreed to be moderated if you broke its rules. Bans & Infractions If you receive a ban or infraction, please abide by the sanctions that are carried with them. If a facet of this site is disabled because of an infraction you received, you are not to create a new account to subvert that penalty. The use of multiple accounts in contravention of sanctions will lead to permanent bans very quickly. Examples of What Can Get You an Infraction and/or Ban Generally including, but limited to: - Necroing old threads that have no relevance/are outdated - Anything basically asking for respect from members - Threatening language - Racist and otherwise inappropriate slurs, even if made in jest - Selling stuff from other sites - Asking for cd or activation keys, validation numbers, etc - Double or triple posting within a small amount of time instead of editing your original post - Repeatedly posting content that belongs in another forum FAQ Q1: How do I get an avatar, or a profile picture? A: 1. Click 'Edit Profile' at the top, below the banner. 2. Click 'Upload Profile Picture' on the left toolbar. Pic is max 110 X 120 pixels. Note: Your profile picture will be the same as your avatar. ---------- Q2: How do I personalize the 'user title' below my name? A: 1. Click 'Edit Profile' at the top, below the banner. 2. Click 'Edit Profile' on the left toolbar. 3. Under the "Optional Information..." header there is a "Custom User Title" area. Edit it there. ---------- Q3: How do I edit my signature and/or put a picture in it? A: 1. Click 'Edit Profile' at the top, below the banner. 2. Click 'Edit Signature' on the left toolbar. You will find a box there for putting text and below you will find an area to upload pictures. There is a character limit on the text you can upload (that I currently cannot recall, but just to keep out annoyingly long signatures). And it has been discovered that, unfortunately for you, only mods gets sig pics. Noticing a trend here? Most 'how do I edit x' questions will be 'Edit Profile' >> somewhere on left toolbar. ---------- Q4: What is 'Respect' and how do I get it? A: Respect is just a little tool you can use to appreciate another user for whatever reason you like. You could give someone forum respect by clicking the 'Respect' button under their username. The amount of respect you gain by someone clicking to respect you is approximately equal to 1/20th of the amount of respect the clicker has. For example, if a person with 20 respect clicks your respect button you will go up 1 full respect point; alternatively if 20 people with 1 respect click your respect button you will go up 1 full respect point. Respect displays in .5 increments, rounding down. ---------- Q5: How do I upload images and movies so they show up directly in the thread and not as a link? A: If it's a youtube video, it will automatically embed. If it's a file from your computer: 1. Click 'Post Reply' above the Quick Reply box. 2. Scroll down to the Attach Files box and click 'Manage Attachments.' 3. Press 'Browse...', find the file on your computer then hit 'Upload.' When you post your message the file will be embedded in the thread. If it's a file off the internet, either follow the above steps and instead post a website under 'Upload File from a URL,' or do 1 of 2 things: a) After you click 'Post Reply,' above the text box click the icon of the mountain with a yellow background. Enter the URL in the text box and the image will embed; or: b) Simply type out the (img)[insert image link](/img) with square brackets around 'IMG' instead of rounded. ---------- Q6: How do I quote a person, and further multi-quote the same post? A: 1. Click the 'Quote' button at the bottom right of a given post. 2. Type your feedback under after the in between the (quote) and (/quote) square-bracketed tag. If you want to multi-quote the same post, simply copy and paste the text you want to break up into new quote tags. ---------- Q7: How do I quote multiple posts? A: Click the small green icon at the bottom right of the given posts that say 'Multi-Quote This Message.' As you click each post the white icon will turn red, and when you click 'Post Reply' the textbox will put all of the quoted messages there for you to respond to. ---------- Q8: How do I upload images to the gallery? A: 1. Click 'Gallery' at the top, below the banner. 2. Click 'Upload Photo' a bit below the main toolbar, under your avatar. 3. Follow the usual process to upload anything online. There will be various options for you to toy around with and you could choose what part of the website you want to upload them too also. ---------- Q9: How do I upload videos? A: 1. Click 'Upload' at the top, below the banner. 2. Follow the very simple steps. ---------- Q10: Who are the mods and how do I become one? A: As STIFF_UK once said, moderators are the hands of God on the forums. Mods make sure a friendly atmosphere is kept and that no one breaks the rules. There also might be a super secret mod forum which they could only see (!). You can find out who is a moderator of a given forum by scrolling to the bottom of the page, or alternatively visit this link to see a complete list. Becoming a mod has nothing to do with your respect or post count. Generally good mod candidates are people who continually help others and/or make significant contributions to a forum. However this does not guarantee you modship, and many of the decisions are based on whether or not another mod is needed in a particular forum. ---------- Q11: Who is Tane? A: Tane is Bboy.org, literally and figuratively. You can figure that one out for yourself ![]() |
