Waving - 07-27-2008, 02:18 AM

Well people always say practice practice practice to get better. I dont seem to be getting any better i suppose. After seeing Jcks Practice video;
HTML Code:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo9LJg1kBKA
Just wondering how/what exercises could be practiced to create those smooth body and arm waves and how to practice.

do you practice waves a) smoothly or b) one isolation point at a time?

if answer == a) then b)
if answer == b) then keep practicing

Thanks Morax

When isolating one point at a time (Just like your tutorial) should i keep doing it at a slow pace, or speed it up ?

Yeah xD

I want to wave like him. It just looks like he has smooth waves while keeping his arm still. Argh. So practice is really the key to a smooth wave ?

practicing isn't enough, you have to practice the right way. i've seen people who say they've been practicing for 10 years but they're crap. the easiest way for us to help your waving out is for you to post a clip for us to critique. if you have no problem controlling your iso points, then it's up to you to modify your waves until you have the right look. if your coordination with waving is lacking, then you need to work on iso points.

here's a tip that works for me

instead of practising with a mirror,
try standing near a wall with a light behind you and look at your shadow as you practise your armwaves. cant say much for bodywaves unless you practise it topless.

another tip, most people will tell you
waves look better when you're wearing a long sleeved top.
also, baggy stuff kills your waves. so a relaxed fit, long sleeved tee / shirt would do the trick.

thirdly, what Morax said was right, you gotta practise it CORRECTLY. think of it this way, if you start f'ed up, you end up f'ed up, no matter how much practise you put in it. so you gotta start your practise "perfectly", so you'll always end up with a "perfect" wave. "perfect" = YOUR definition of perfect, because everyone's definition is different.

lastly, like what HKFlame said, practise it slow. then speed it up.
if you practise it fast, you're gonna have a problem doing it slow.
why? muscle memory.
your muscles memorise how you're supposed to do it. so if you practise it slow, your body memorises every single action and motion, and then you'll have no problems speeding it up. at the same time, you wont lose the detail in your waves.

and sorry everyone, i've been "out of the game" for some time, who's jck? can someone point me to a vid or something?

lastly...

hmm, i think your tech is pretty good. what you need to do is put more umpf in your waves. bring them out more, they just look weak. once you do that, they'll look ten times better.
i like your style, has like an onion feel to it lol.
