Animation or Strobing? - 02-25-2005, 10:52 AM

Hi all,
Ok im having problems with determining the differences between animation and strobing, they seem very similar to me.

The guides on mrwiggles.biz are different in that you tense up the whole time in animation, but thats about it.

well neways from the vids i have seen the two are pretty much identical, stop starts rapidly to create an animated effect, like you were drawn in frames (animation) but this also looks the same as if you were under a strobe light(strobing).

Thanks for the help

animation and strobing - 02-25-2005, 01:20 PM

Well, to be honest with you the art form known as Popping is an animated dance.
What is the different between animation and strobing?

When you are strobing, it's like a strobe light is on you. It's a more defined stop and go then animation the style within popping. You move, and you stop, you move and you stop, your whole body moves in this motion. IT's like a chopped up dimestop.

Animation of what I know if it is more off the hitting. It's like a vibration off the hitting. It's a little of these things that make an animation looks good. It is the vibration off the hitting with your body rocking a little. That is the secret to animation.

I'm pretty good with these body effects movements. I'm into the ticking, strobing, animation, etc. These were my strong area in Popping.

About strobin and animation... - 02-28-2005, 09:28 AM

So space your into the animation, strobing etc, thats cool 4real! outta al them animated effects im better at strobing, as it includes (i think neway) a simpler technique, stop start movements with the "hit" where as animation is similar with the added emphasis on the "hits" if your a newbie id advise one to try strobing rather than animation, i reckon its a lot harder, but a mad heavy trick! Space add so clips of you doin your thang and could u also give us (especially me LOL!) some help/tips on how to bring the effect to life more.

2 newbs have ago, check out www.style2ouf.com >>>video clips>>>animation/strobing. Sum pretty cool animation on there. Oh and check out www.killsometime.com >>>>funny vid clips>>>>robotdance. Infact i mite upload them. Holla back people especially spacecapital, like to hear back from ya man!

Peace and love everyone.

that clip on killsometime.com is elsewhere@kollaboration2001 - just a little robot and strobing - no animation.....

I have the Mr Animation clip, from style2ouf.com - he does a little animated 6 step but thats about it.......does anyone else have any decent animation clips - save for the 2 seconds displayed by ZuluGremlin on the DVD?

Isn't Animation also defined as imitating something?

I am the definition of action.

according to the audionaughts this style was developed in Oakland and it was quoted that:
(Ted and Steve William's, who were labeled by locals as the masters of the "Dynorama" and "7th Voyage of Sinbad" styles)
In animation, what your basically trying to do is imitate these stop motion style animation characters. Here are some tips on how you can achieve this:
1- study one of these characters in these movies (go to the site and look at his claymation movie list...u lazy bastard)
2- first follow the body movements and it's style, but stay relaxed
3- now try these movements again, but this time tighten your muscles really tight. This will create a more animated movement that will almost simulate the character. Also apply some stop motion to totally create the illusion.
this is just one technique. In order for you to really achieve good animation, you should first learn how to pop every part of your body and that will give you the better experience to learn animation.

--taken from mr. wiggle's website

best thing to do is buy his sessions three video. it dosent have alot of animation in it...but enough to grasp the style if you didn't know what it was.

Yeah... - 03-03-2005, 04:01 AM

Mogwai your right, but i wouldnt call that Robot man LOL! on that kollaboration thing, its got strobing, as your said no animation, But go 2 sytle2ouf.com and Mr animation does do the animation of the six-step but there is also another dude called Said, he does some pretty realistic animation, eg walk around, then rewinds himself, then waves and claps then he also does an effect as if hes glitching, Eg computer games that are palyed on a slow ass comp LOL.

Mogwai theres a dance skool here called United Styles run by the AUS allstar b.boy team called um....i forget at the moment LOL! ....damn...called cant remember LOL

i already have that clip..its mainly slomo - but i see what you mean theres a few "stutters" whch are technically animation........

Yeah - United Style Breakers have been around in the uk since 1985. My (new) crew were allowed to extend the chapter through the ages by my boy Jez, who was down with First Rate in his bboy dayz......

Think we get call on that one.......I shortened it to United Styles cos it flows and is more new school....It gets hazy there - but they aint using it as a crew name so it doesn't matter. Good name though!!!!

Right on SpaceCapital. Animation, Strobing and Ticking are easily what I'm best at also, although I think my Cobra is pretty nice. My Boogaloo is pretty decent.

I really like animation, strobing, ticking and the like its fun. I'm gonna go practice it some more.

anyway, question spacecapital, are you the one and only spacecapital from Chicago?

http://www.cotacrew.com/dancingclips...tyles%206.mpeg

if ya want animation/strobing...he is the best guy to go take a look at...

flattop is and will always be king of animation...

see animation/strobing dont have to only do with hands...and arms...you have to incorporate...face animations...to show how you are feeling...to ease look of the flow of your movements...

walking/other movements mean you need to exaggerate...because normal steps wont be read as animated...(because animated means not normal...in loose terms)

when you do strobing...start off pausing 4th beat...then when you feel you have that under control...go for every 2
then hit every beat...when all this is accomplished...practice variation

i dont think i have explained anything to you that you dont know already

so here are more clips... have fun

he does some animation with his waves in about 26 seconds into the movie
