could some one post a vid about lockin on here becauyse i cant seem to understand what they mean by holding your arms straight in from of you, bent a little, and flex... i jsut dont understand what thats supposed to be or look like.. but a vid would help out alot

first of all, i think what you are referring to is hitting, not locking. There is a popping tutorial video already posted at the top of the forum. It isn't hard to spot.

i saw that the video was there but i cant DL it fro some reason i think it might b in a different format than the other vids that it DL'd but yea thats what i meant.. hitting, my fault.. thats exactly why i need help lol if you know where there is another vid coul u let me know

wel as far as step-by-step tutorial vids, there really aren't a whole lot of them out there. if you're having trouble downloading the one on this site then all you can realy do is find someone who can send it to you or just search on soulseek for videos of people dancing. there won't be any instruction dubbed in, but you can watch how they hit and just learn from that.

I can try to explain it to you a little bit. it helps if you do it along with the guide. pick an arm and hold it out in front of you. it helps if you use a short sleeve shirt while you are learning so you can see the muscles contract. now the goal here is to flex your muscles as hard as you can and then release the tension as quickly as possible so you get a king of sudden jerk effect. do not jerk your arm! snapping your arm makes your hit looks loppy imo, and if you flex hard enough your arm should twitch enough to give you a good ilusion. think of a body builder who does the big flexes. youre basicaly doing that but instead of holding the muscles tense you are releasing them almost instantly. The muscles you should be using are your bicep, tricep, and forearm muscles. Don't forget to flex and release as fast as possible, but don't sacrifice the strength of a hit for the sake of speed.

Those are the basic guidelines that I use when I am treaching myself. All you more experienced people out thre on the boards, please correct me if theres something I am doing incorrectly.

thanks for the explaination and im sure u got it right because ive heard it explained like that before.. but i guess im just slow or im not doin it rite or suttin because it just doesnt seem that impressive... or maybe i just need to see someone do it to understand what it is supposed to look like... or am i doin it right and its just part of something bigger that makes it look good?

sry if it seem lkik im just buggin but i wanna learn suttin new

well hitting in the arms is only one place to hit. there is neck hitting, chest hitting, waist hitting, and knee hitting as well and yes, they all contribute to the illusion. i am not too good at neck or leg hits so i won't try to explain them until i improve, and this website has a great chest hit video stickied at the top of the forum. i recommend you download that one to help you with your chest hits.

i often have the same feeling that hits have to be accompanied by some other movement to fully express what they are supposed to do, and i guess that is just something that comes with time. keep practicing, thats all you can do!
