One life one tribe one love one blood
Too much has been shed its time to rise above
You don’t have to understand it and you dont have to like it
But were much more powerful when we're UNITED
Ignorance fight it Knowledge embrace it
Have sympathy for people who too scared to change shit
Dont talk it just live it
Enjoy life absorb every minute
Quit placing the blame
Put your mind towards change
Hold the torch, light the flame, make a difference
One love one nation lets get uplifted

=========// A NEW YEARS REZOLUTION 2//===============

"Turning back the Clock":
"Back in the days when kids were mack daddy's, striped Lee jeans, Playboy's and Caddy's" the sounds of the American underground machine were starting to take shape. Before the first mix, the first scratch, and first backspin, there was The Sugarhill Gang. Pioneers from the the concrete jungle, unknowingly ready to help change the course of American music history. The birth of hip-hop saw the death of disco, and the record became more than a recording, it became a tool. Fast forward to the late 80's, the drums began beating in the New York underground once again, and Frankie Bones would emerge. A new era begins, highlighted by super-clubs like NASA, and transplants like DB. Rave culture sweeps thru urbania like its predecessor hip hop, making the underground breathe once again. Those times are gone, but the memories live on in the ears, hearts and souls of us all. So be ready to take a trip back, to a time when there was only one school, and the sounds of the underground were fresh and new. Join us as we rewind the clock to many times of the past, and let True Productions launch you into the New Year, consider time RESOLVED....

// MAIN ROOM:======================================

THE SUGARHILL GANG (3:00-3:45)<------
(Sugarhill Records) NYC
*TURNING BACK THE CLOCK- ALL 6 OF THE ORIGINATORS OF HIP HOP MUSIC, LIVE!*
Formed in New Jersey in 1979, the Sugarhill Gang is arguably the first professional rap group in history, coining (or at least popularizing) the term "hip hop" in their smash 1979 single "Rapper's Delight." Comprising rappers Master Gee, Wonder Mike and Big Bank Hank, the Sugarhill Gang was brought together by Sugarhill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, who saw a market for a record of music like that performed by amateur DJs and MCs at Bronx block parties. Almost instantly after the first radio play of “Rapper’s Delight” the song began selling thousands of copies daily. Quickly rising to No. 4 on the charts, the song broke the ice for hip-hop music and took it from the streets to a global audience. Sugarhill Gang quickly released many more hits to help define the culture like “Break Dance-Electric Boogie” and “8th Wonder.” There releases jump started Sugarhill Records and later paved the way for hip hop icons Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Melle Mel, and many more of hip hops early pioneers. (Sugar Hill Gang >> "Our New Year's Rezolution is to bring you the “Hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop, a you don’t stop rock it out baby bubbah to the boogie da bang bang the boogie to the boogie da beat”)

He eventually competed for the regional DMC Championship, and then the US DMC Championship. After winning the US DMC Championship Rectangle competed for and won The Box National Search for a DJ Champion. The prize was a job with recording rap artist Warren G as his “on tour DJ.” With several world tours under his belt and numerous TV performances including such stops as David Letterman’s The Late Show, The Billboard Awards, and Top of the Pops just to name a few, Rectangle decided to make the move to Los Angeles. In LA Rectangle continued to produce his Break Beat records. At present, Rectangle’s records are the most famous DJ battle tools in the world. Bootleg copies of his mixes are being sold in varying stores across the globe. for the vancity heads:

here's a link to G-MAN & RIZK's even page..

Event Page

has upcoming club nights and shows that they're featuring..

went to Atlantis last friday where Bishop did a couple tracks wit AMP and Choclair... it was aight, i wasn't in the mood so i was kinda bored.. but Bishop's nice, and AMP's "7 Nation Army" track is tight... Choclair looked pretty fucked when i talked to him, prolly why his verse was half assed... anyway, that page is updated frequently and is sent out to a mailing list.. i think u can add your email if ya want...

I'll keep the Vancity heads updated.. tho i dunno how many of 'em are legal...

peace.

I went to Tru Luv 5 Saturday night and I had the dopest night.

When I first got inside I was worried it was going to be a real sh*tty night. I didn't see 7L and Eso on any of the set lists, my camera's batteries were dead and I was pretty tired from working all day.

But alas, I drank some red bulls, found a friend with a camera and the club owner(Gil-T) assured me they were on their way.

At 2:15 -7L and Esoteric accompanied by their good friend the Beyonder stepped on stage and my 9-5 monotony a distant memory. I was front row and center hanging on to every word. They did a bunch of hot tracks like, Be Alert, Jealous Over Nothing, Herb, Speak Now, Split Personality(funny as hell...Beyonder vs. Esoteric style) and one of my personal favorites: Word Association. They also did a couple of tracks off their new album like Boondox Saints and Mercy Killing(weighty diss track to El-P). Not to mention some tight freestyles over 7L's cross fade. Esoteric shouted me out and even used my name in a free. That had me real hyped.

After they finished I waited around near the door hoping to talk to Eso and luckily he spotted me. I told him they made my night and asked when they'd be back around. I gave him the bboy.org link, told him to check out the FRS and crossed my fingers he'd actually hold on to it or remember it. Probably won't, but I don't care.

Only drawback of the night: They weren't there long enough! Left me fiending for more.

He gave me their new CD: Vinyl Thug Music which includes collabos with Beyonder, Celph Titled, Apathy, Vinnie Paz, Killah Priest, Karma and more. I personally haven't developed a full opinion yet because I haven't listened to it through and through but I will and so far I can tell it's definitley got a different flavor to it.

Check the link for a full track listing, shows, pics, biographies and message boards

yo...happy new years everyone!....i just got back from party'in with flobot all night in the middle of the woods at some random house party.....

we also went to the okay player tour first show, monday night...sick shit!!

as soon as we walked in we went right to the vending tables....first one we walked up too happened to be def jux...when i looked down at the cd's, this dude was like, yo peep my cd, and he pointed to the mr. lif cd.....lol...i looked up and saw huge notty dreds and a smile...he's like, wuts up man...lol...it was funny....and aesop and el-p were behind the table....flobot and lif started talking to lif (flobot was kicking some lines to him and lif was givin him props)...and aesop came out from behind the table and said wuts up and shit and i was asking him about different cd's and givin him props on his last cd....i bought the new lif cd and he signed the inside and so did aesop....that was real phat....but it seemed like we were the only ones who recognized them....cuz we were in the middle of crowds of people....

after talking to them we started walking into were the stage area was and pete rock and cl smooth walked right past us and i said wuts up to cl smooth cuz he was standing right next to me....that was real cool!

when th show finally started it started with The Roots playing a couple tracks then J-Live came out on stage....he tore it up...he got behind the tables and started cuttin it up WHILE he was still spittin on the mic....that was nuts.....then the roots came back out (none of their shit left the stage) .....then mad skillz came out (he stole the show later on when he did a couple solo tracks and some freestyles) and did some shit with the roots.....then jean grae came out while the roots band kept playin....then little brother......then def jux crew started comin out doing shit....first vast aire, then sa smash, then aesop and lif...all while the roots stilled played their music....that was the craziest part....seeing all these guys with the roots playin their music.....then black thought got back on the mic and dice raw came out...then pete rock and cl smooth did a set....then little brother came back out(during this set jean grae came off stage to right were i was standing and i gave her props, she was really nice)...then the roots finished it off with a couple old tracks and some new shit...then jean grae and dice raw did a track with black thought....then it was over pretty much, i probably missed some names....there were so many heads on that stage it was crazy....awsome show.....

if anyone gets a chance hit up the okay player tour....definately not a show to be missed

Nice Zeke! I wish I was there with you! I just got the new Aesop and Lif's Sleepyheads album(hugs to Talent for that).

Sounds like you had an incredible time. Next tour, I'm going with you!

New Year's Rezolution 2
I had a really incredible time at the party last night. I got there at about 11 and Soulslinger and his boys were ripping some old school jungle. The ball dropped at midnight and the place went mad for about a half hour with everybody screaming and chasing balloons filled with tickets to up coming events, raffle tickets, stickers etc.

Then Faust and Shortee blessed the decks with some old school hip hop and breakbeats. The bboys were just getting warmed up at that point. Let me just say that Shortee can cut n scratch with the best of em. They both put on a really good set for the battles and made sure everybody was having a good time.

About 1 am or so, Popmaster Fabel grabbed the mic and announced that Rock Steady was in the house Total mayhem. The circle developed instantly and Nasty Ness started waxing the floor while the battles got organized. Bebo from GroundFX(Boston) along with his brother was there(Macho?) and a lot of new kids that were pretty dope. Not a huge turnout on the bboy end but still tight nonetheless. There were two dope bgirls. One that came with the RSC and ripped up the floor in between battles and one that was was actually in a three way battle with Bebo and his bro. Waria. Cute as hell and her feet were on fire. Dope toprock, nice floorwork and some good combos.

DJ Rectangle appeared outta nowhere it seemed when Faust and Shortee’s set was winding down and the Nasty Ness was looking obviously impatient with the same beat monotonously carrying on. Rectangle stepped up and insisted the crowd look alive or he was going home. He cut up everything from Pharoah to Wu to reggae and back to the old school. I danced all night and my body’s still yelling at me!

The Sugarhill Gang was late....but they rocked it. Despite it being 4 am I summed up every last bit of energy and sang along to Rappers Delight and Apache. They were infectious and still know how to rock a stage.

The RSC stayed the entire night mixing with everybody just having a good time. It was nice to see.

I love nights like those, when you go home inspired to new heights and can’t wait to get up and dance some more with new ideas flowing through your mind and a desire to carry them out with more passion then the day before.

A good way to start the New Year.
