Big news. -
11-06-2009, 03:27 PM
This doesn't really have anything to do with music, but I'm cooler the the people in the FRS than any other part of the forum, so I thought I'd share. I understand if the thread gets closed for being in the wrong forum.
Getting to the point: I'm enlisting in the Army on Tuesday. I never thought that I would do such a thing, seeing as how I'm not exactly a patriot in any sense of the word. To be brief with my reasoning: The last 18 months have been terrible for me. They've been a rapid downhill travel through life. My grandmother, whom I was living with, got sick. I left high school and being Salutatorian to work full time and pay her bills. I got my GED and was keeping the house paid for and the lights on. She passed away after 6 months of being in the hospital. My uncle, who happens to be a complete douchebag and didn't even visit her in the hospital, wanted the FOUR BEDROOM HOUSE to himself, and threw me out. There wasn't really room at my mom and stepdad's house, so I used the money I had been saving up to start college early to get my own apartment when I was 17. I was barely making rent, so I got a better job. I was making 13.50 an hour, and everything was cool. Then, they did a bunch of company layoffs. I was back to eating spoonfulls of peanut butter to kill my appetite. I got a job teaching martial arts on the other side of town, but my car is a piece of shit. That ended up costing me that job, which was giving me $20 an hour. Back to peanut butter. I ended up helping my stepdad create room at their place, and moving in. I was working at a pawn shop, but ended up losing that job 3 weeks ago. Throughout all of this, there have been countless emotional struggles and tragedies with me, my family, and my friends. Everything just kinda fell apart. I'm not doing this for my country. I'm doing this to guarantee my college being paid for and some sort of stability in my life. The money is going to be good, and this is the big change I've been needing in my life. Also, I'm getting married. Fuck, haha. This is insane. We're tying the knot when I get back from basic training and job training, and then she's going to live with me near the base. So far, it's looking like I'll be stationed in either Hawaii or Germany. I can't stop cheesin. Once again, I understand if this gets deleted. Just wanted to share it with my new FRS family. -Wiz |

I'm glad you consider us your family already seeing as you've been around for barely a week. All the best in everything you do and I hope things do work out for you.

Yeah, I've been through a lot. At the same time, I wouldn't really want my life to be easy. I don't want things just given to me. Life is hard, and I want a sense of pride and accomplishment when I do get that easy life that everyone strives for. And plus, there's loads of people who have it worse. Thanks for the wishes. =] |

I can't say I support your choice to go into the military, but I do wish you good luck in all your endeavors and hope things work out for the best.

I'll just start off by saying the majority rappers today have no intention of supporting hip-hop culture. If you don't support the culture, then you aren't really hip-hop.

Since we've never communicated in any real sense, it's difficult for me to say anything that won't sound empty or just something you could chalk up to politeness, but I read your paragraph and I sincerely empathize. Hope everything works out.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree.
The Army offers a vast array of positions and duties. One of the recruiters has served for 17 years, and has never seen battle. He makes eyeglasses for the Army. He's a Staff Sargent. He's not doing what the majority would consider serving his country. When you think about someone serving their country, you probably think about soldiers in combat dodging bullets every day. I didn't say I was going into combat. I'm leaning towards photographer, since that's what I'm best at. But I'm gonna get the list of jobs available on Tuesday and really digest all the information about each position before I make my decision. I'm looking for a career. I don't find any fault in joining the Army in hopes of building a career and being able to support my family. This is going to completely pay for my education, and give me experience in fields that will contribute to my life once I return home, unless I decide to re-enlist and continue to serve. |

did ya find out where ya gonna be stationed?

Once while walking through the mall a guy came up to me and said "Hey, hows it going?". So I grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his head and said "Now whose asking the questions?"
