Quick question.. right now I'm working on recording a song, but my room is MAD echoey, I don't have carpet floors, and I don't have padding.. is there anyway I can reduce that "echo" to my voice? It makes it sound crazy ****ed up and frustrates me because I can't record anywhere else and yet it's the "Best" quality I can get without mixing my voice..

Yeah but even that is out of the question, no where else that's less echo prone, less sparse, or anything. I still don't know how to mix properly but even when I hear some dude's tracks who are just rough recordings their shit sounds better than mine but I know it ain't their mic.
For remembering lyrics.. you can use the spacing method (learned this in psychology); at first, just try spitting your lyrics outloud while reading them, then try spitting them outloud without reading as far as you can. The spacing method in this case would be you spitting them to the best of your memory, and then waiting a little bit, spit it again, wait a little longer than last time.. wait again, etc. until you're spitting it flawlessly without tripping up. The only thing that ****s me up with memorization, and currently only right now, is the fact I keep revising this one verse so it ****s with my memory and I get lines mixed up.. **** me lol it's mad frustrating too hearing my voice and my quality because it sounds so wack to me. |

How you fix that thing when you sound like your near the mic, then too far from it all of a sudden? Is there another way better than compression???
And it just could be the state im in right now. Losing my voice, cough and shiet EDIT: Oh and im keeping the same distance AND trying to spit at the same volume EDIT2: And yea the mic has a hard time picking up my sound. I always have to up the volume or amplify by so much sometimes the sound gets weird. I've maxed the volume through my settings. Am I just gonna have to keep upping the volume and amping by so much??? |

On the front of making your shit the same volume, you CAN normalize it, but generally normalising playes with the sound waves a little too much to me and it'll also make any excess noise on the track alot louder as well. You need to use a combination of a noise gate, a compressor and possibly an expander in order to fix the fluctuating volumes. That's the pro way of doing it, normalising is really a noob-ish quick fix with less control and lower quality of end product. |
