Elbee there's a difference between wanting exposure to PLEASE the maintream, and wanting exposure to OFFEND the mainstream. The reason I said most of you noob cats is mainstream (which wasn't an insult, just a comment, if y'all wanna take "mainstream" as a negative comment that's your perogative) is because y'all all spit over mainstream sounding beats, with nice-pleasant-this-shit-could-easily-appeal-to-your-brother-mother-sister-and-lover type of lyrics. That's what mainstream means to me, fitting the commercial sound and putting out accessible, marketable material. I wanted to go on TV so I could actually look straight into a camera and rap the line "fuck blasphemy, my actions' only wrong if I say so/knocked out jesus christ and strangled god with a halo" and "i heard that ghandi preached peace but then I came t'disturb it/exhumed his corpse t'sell it off t'necrophiliac perverts" etc. It was a platform to offend as many people as I can (the performances were live) with no censorship. And hey, who wouldn't love that?

it's ironic coz i'm boutta hit the "mainstream" with those verses, well some of em at least. got an album comin out soon, so look out for that. good thing bout the record label i got signed with is that i get full control of my songs, like.. how i want em to sound, what i wanna say, etc. i'm pushin for radio time, definitely, and they are also helpin with that. i agree with dobb though. seize the opportunity, but bend backwards for nobody.

anyway, aura.. checked out ur myspace.. got some decent stuff in there yo. i added u too. u should fill one of the spots in the topical tourney right now..

Sounds abit like eminem the way he said he wanted to offend everybody. Either way, the lines that he quoted were ill in a way that not many dare to rap about topics like that.

Well, it just makes sense to me that "mainstream" means "within the stream of socially acceptable music - or the 'main' stream of music."

damn i feel you in that way.
what I'm trying to do is get into the mainstream and flip it on them, thats what my close friend told me to do. and its true even if those tracks don't get marketted because your names brand will bring it popularity.
i dunno but i do what im comfortable with and think is right, other then that its all good.

Kanye West
Nas
Biggie
Pac

All ended up on the mainstream labels, but I think remained pretty true to their messages. I see points from all of you though. It'd be nice to make paper doing what you love and how you want to do it.

Record your discs and push em. Go to shows, link up, network, get yourself heard old school style. Not just myspace music pages. Though its a great outlet, it's not authentic and doesn't show as much heart (again only my opinion).

J-Roc, best of luck man I'm so happy for you. As for the tourney, I think I gotta earn my spot back here first I know the rules.

to be honest yo the instrumental is badass but the track is ugh
i felt that wax fell off flow so many times, and the chorus was ok until he said that "bum bon bump" shit
if he had the instrumental alone shit id be sure to hit it
