[###] 5 Step Beginner variation Tutorial w/ video [###] - 08-14-2007, 05:26 PM

Ok so I have been seeing many threads asking for a 5 step tutorial, and the response they get is "search it on google."

I'm sure its there, but i made this just to convincence you guys to stay on bboy.org and to keep your internet from frying with so many open windows on the desktop

EDIT:As MaDD pointed out

This 5 Step is how I do my 5 step...its pretty simple..and easy as hell
but keep in mind this isnt the ONLY way to do a 5 step..because there are different variations..after you learn this tutorial, you should learn those tutorials also, so you can expand your footwork and in the end become a much better bboy

Also, this guide is for CCW (counter clock wise), if you go clockwise, just switch the lefts and the rights, but in the end its best to know footwork going both directions.

haha ok now for the guide, bear with me, even though i have bboyed for the past 2 years, this is my first actual guide

5 Step Guide

First off, i suggest you learn the 6 step. It's the foundation of all footwork and if you havnt already, it will help you dramatically when learning the 5 step.

You can find the 6 step tutorial here:http://www.bboy.org/forums/footwork/...-tutorial.html

EDIT:BBoy Jp's 3 Step Tutorial would also help with the shuffling in the 4th and 5th step of the 5 step..you can find his tutorial here: 3 Step Guide Video Included

Ok now for the actual guide:
The 5 step is composed of 5 steps, thus giving it the name 5 step xD

Get in the starting position of the 6 step, with you torso directly above both your legs while squatting. (aka the crap position)

EDIT:The six step could have two different starting positions, whether it be the crab position (looking up) or on all fours (looking down)

This guide uses the "looking up or crab" version for the starting position of the six step

First Step:
Bring your right leg around your left leg (imitating the 1st step of the six step)
While doing this put your right hand on the ground for support

Second Step:
Straighten your left leg to the left/back of your body (imitating the 2nd step of the six step)
While doing this place your left hand on the ground for additional support
fourth

Third Step:
Bring your right leg parallel with your left leg by bring it to the right and back of the body. (all fours would be on the ground and you would be facing the ground)

Fourth Step:
Jump onto your right foot while keeping your left foot straight in front.

Fifth Step:
Jump on your left foot while keeping your right foot straight in front.

Then return back to the 1st step to complete the cycle and contine..

heres a video i made to much better describe how the 5 step works..
enjoy!

lol, im honored. About detail, i think you should leave the steps explanations as they are because they are easy to understand. But at the end you could add a more detailed insight of the 5 step, like tips, common pitfalls and stuff ya know ? When thinks get to detailed it is harder to understand what it actually is they are doing because of all the information they are taking in.

Peace.

Well I just realized that I've been doing a different five step than everyone else. I do a 5 step a completely different looking way.

My problem with a "5step" guide is there are about 5 commonly used "5step" variations. This one appears to be somewhat based on the Gamblers style, which is just throwing the first part of the 3step into your 6step. There are also several 'floating' step variations, if the concept confuses you then you can see what I mean here in Zeshen's basic move explanations. Essentially the '5step' is just a name you can use for any variation of basic steps that end in 5steps.

Yea i've never seen an official 5 step but just lots of different ways and styles to do it. But this guide is ok for beginners. I remember when my 5 step used to be a 6 step but i replaced the first 2 steps (of 6 step) with a helicopter o_O DONT BITE ! :P
