Turtle Prob...... - 12-25-2003, 07:54 PM

I have 2 turtle problems.........

1) Where do i exactly leave my elbows. I know how to balance my self on a turtle pretty much as long as i want to, but i don't if my elbows are placed correctly. I heard they go on the hips, but does that mean next to my hips or right under them?

2) I cant spin worth for ****. Once I let go of one hand (which I cant even do) I fall....................Is this due to my elbow problem?

Thanx in adv.

Some people say to put elbows on hips and others say in your gut. It seems painful to put in your stomach but for some reason i feel more comfortable with it there so put your elbows where u feel most comfortable. Before spinning you should learn to balance your body on each arm separately.

I can offer some advices here on the turtle since I'm already quite good on it (self-proclaimed... heheh). Anyway... place your elbows on the sides of your abs. You won't want to place them on your hip bones instead. It'll most likely hurt you. Besides, doesn't it sound rather ridiculous if bboys execute the turtles on the end of their hips?

My suggestion: download some clips on bboys doing the turtle. Observe (in every frame if you need to) how they alternate their hands. "Flying Steps - Breaking It Down" has Crazy-Be doing it.

Now, the action: I do my moves CCW, so you'll want to go down to the frog position, turning to your left. Place left hand on floor (with it place firmly on the side of your ab as well). Can you do handglides? You might want to do the same technique. Only your right arm is joined to your ab, too. No better words describe it: just alternate on your hands. For a start, you might want to try to lean to your left to get momentum. You'll most likely fall after two or three walks on your hands. But don't give up. Practice consistently and you'll learn & feel it. Took me a week with 10-15 minutes practice a day. If you put in more time and effort, you don't need to wait that long. Trust me.

its totally a personal preference, other then that doesnt do shit.

u cant spin because ur user to the freeze, they work under different principals

Dont bite the hand that feeds u, eventually everyone helping u will get annoyed...jesus.

Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

I think what Anubis say is true. Assuming you're going to attempt turtles after getting used to the freeze position, it's a whole new thing. Perhaps you'll have to start with all fours on the floor. Again, assuming you go CCW, spin to your left with left elbow planted in your ab (side of stomach!). You may want to place your right elbow slightly in an above position (I just hope you get what I mean) in order to get a spinning motion. You'll have to walk on your hands in circles. Do it on the same spot for a start. When you become pro-ish, you can just walk all over the place on your hands only. It'll look cool.

Here's a suggestion: If you have absolutely no idea how you can WALK on hands, stand up on your legs and walk in a circle motion. Take notice how your legs walk around in a circle. The principle's are just the same, only you're doing this with your hands planted in abs. Balance is just as important, though I don't think you have that prob, do you? Do the same way to understand the mechanisms of crickets and jackhammers. Then apply the principles when you attempt them. As for now, do the turtles first.

Just keep trying bro. You will get use to the turning motion after awhile of falling.
