Bounders - 11-21-2003, 12:26 AM

If I'm not wrong, bounders are the type of front flips where you don't arch your back at all; your body remains totally straight.

Right. How do you do them? I got the front flips, but I keep landing squatting down no matter how much I bend my back into a bridge position mid-flip. Momentum is not a problem; I can usually do these squat-landing front flips 3 times inna row though they look bloody ugly. I got no idea how to land standing up. Help?

I cant do flips mayself, but ask yourself: is your spin hard enough? Are your knees locked? Use your hands! Swing the down as sard as u can and get into a tight ball when u flip. And, of course, its a good idea to land knees bent to absord the landing shock, but since u wonna land standing, then lock your knees... The main point of this is momentum. Try gettting tons of momentum and ull get it. Hope that helped!

gymmy, those are called lay outs. are you trying to do a standing lay out? if so...then you need air alert or something because its super hard to do one good enough to be called a standing front flip lay out.

air alert is this program that works your leg muscles for 12 weeks. at the end of it you will be able to jump a foot higher. pretty cool, but really really hard to keep up with.

ok to what break master said, NEVER LOCK YOUR KNEES you need to sustain the impact, where else will the energy go? it will go straight into your bones, and you will develop injuries, bad injuries

I never tried the flip, but i know right now that i would land on my heels and then on my butt.

I'm pretty sure you are not ready for that flip because of how you land on the frontflip. I just don't think you would make it.

But for that frontflip, i think you are running to fast into it and you are not jump high enough. When you go in for that frontflip do a little run and jump straight up and tuck, don't lunge/jump forward and tuck. And when you tuck whip those arms towards your ankles.

Try that out.
GOOD LUCK!!

Don't you start those layouts in a pike position and in the end unpike yourself?

no, that would be a front pike. flips where your whole body is straight is called a layout. girls at my gymnastics place do them all the time. they do a front handspring, front layout, front tuck. you need a lot of momentum to get that high, and you shouldnt try to jump forward, you should run at a good pace and jump as high as you can. then you should try to flip over and land it.
