for some reason i can't throw my legs over from the back bridge position. and i think my arms aren't flexible enuff. do u need really flexible shoulders and arms to do a backhandspring? i took a pic of myself and my waist is bending alot but my arms aren't. like for instance when i try to go into a bridge from standing up, i can't cause when i bend my arms back with my head, i just fall down. am i doing this stuff right or am i not flexible to do a backhandspring?

Backflips and backhandsprings are entirely different except that they are both scary at first - and this is definitely a backhandspring guide, so dont use it to try a backflip... but about the flexible arms - you dont need flexible arms to do a backhandspring, but it does stretch your stomach a lot- oh yea and throwing your legs over your head in a bridge really isnt that important - i cant do that but i can do a backhandspring - its all about fear - thats it

Someone else said this guide will not work... i kind of agree, though not completely.

Firstly, this is neither a backflip nor a back handspring guide. The type you're talking about is a back-walkover.

Secondly, you wont be doing multiple BHS if you follow this guide. I promise you that. Firstly, for BHS you have to jump onto your hands keeping your body more or less straight, and you have to have an overall momentum which pushes you in the general backward direction. Back walkovers dont give that.

What you can do with backwalkovers, though, is very nice circular back handsprings on the spot. This is because when your legs come over your hands and land on the ground and your torso rises up, you have a forward momentum which makes you step forward, else you'll fall over forwards. So you end up where you've started. Once you've completely conquered any fear and have enough body tension and technique, you can do back-circular walkovers on the spot, very fast, which is VERY impressive. In my book, these are better because you have to have a whole 100 feet to run and execute full BHS, whereas in breakin circles you only need a small space.

Well then when your comfortable doing back handsprings take your hands away!!!! THERE NOW YOU HAVE A BACKFLIP GUIDE
Just so everyone knows, that isn't the best idea to try. Back handsprings are completely different moves from backtucks, and there's a good chance of getting hurt if you simply do this same thing without hands.
