Sorry, my old thread was somewhat long so I started a new one..

A whole day of practicing flares. My body was dead tired at the end.

I'm trying to sweep, but my legs always kicks too high...

Please spend your time watching my flare video

and give me advices or tips or hints, or what I"m doing wrong!! Thank You.

after watching it 14 times..

It seems like I am not lifting my left hand off the floor fast enough.

Also, i tried sweeping low, but when I do that my left foot slides across the floor, therefore, i lose momentum. When I try sweeping higher, it goes too high.

It takes some getting used to but you will get it....try not to swing to low...
Make sure you put your hands down as soon as you swing.

It's a good attempt. Try these drills. Sweep lower, but high enough so your sweeping leg doe's not drag and you lose too much momentum, as you said you lose momentum.

As you are fairly close in making it round, try it with socks on and no shoes, even if your feet drag, the socks should help keep momentum. Many people dont advise socks as can develop bad habbit. For you, it's so that your hips can feel the motion more.

Now, with shoes on, do flare to mill. Even though you've not completed one round of flare yet, just try it and hopefully it will mentally and physically prepare you for the second round and if you fall short, you should get atleast 1 nice round of flare for now.

Remember, push your hands into the ground and lean, don't let your hips get lazy and drop.

Eh sorry I dropped out of Chinese school at the 2nd grade, my mom wanted me to perfect my English.. Therefore, I can only read 你的, 太高了, 是, 出高, 下, 了
Edit: I got my mom to read it for it, so thanks for the advice.

Thank You so much for the help, LEARNER.

So right now i need to
1st.: drill my sweeping low with socks
2nd: Lean to my right when coming into the 2nd one
3rd: try going into a windmill from the flare ( I can't do two windmills yet though, and I can't go from the standing position into a windmill either)

Should I also practice sweeping with my right leg down and around after I kick it up.

Ok bro, some people will probably tell you to go learn mill first or atleast get standing mill. It would help, but I know that's not what you want to hear now.

Forget that drill with flare to mill as you've not got standing mills yet.

Definately give a try with wearing socks and sweep lower, even if your leg is touching the floor, assuming the floor is nice smooth floor, your sweeping leg will not scrape, it will slide. Do not try it on concreate or grass or really rough service.

Really, you must sweep LOW, that's not to mean let your hips drop, you just sweep low. In your clip You sweep well high for someone learning.

Once you get 1 full round or even rounds in your sock as your hips get use to the circling movement, you'll be able to grasp the feel then can do it with legs higher off the ground.

You ask me if you should sweep down with your right leg after you kick it up. Yeh do that, let me just run through it.

You sweep with your left leg and your right leg goes up, you get to the "V" part (you're doing ok there), From the "V" SWING that right leg kinda out and down (i think thats what you were asking me when you said should you sweep it down).

Swing it as if it were an axe and there was a tree trunk infront of you and you had to chop the tree trunk down. As you swing it out and down, your legs will automatically start going round to the back, lean bit more to your right if you can and really push that right hand into the ground, as if you were doing a crappy L-kick, this will elevate your hips to get you round to the back. As your legs are at the back, lean forward like you were gonna head butt something just above the ground and aim for planche, don't matter if you cant planche, just the over emphasis of it which will help.

The reason why i say don't aim to get too high on flare when youre learning is cos: what goes up must come down. Too much height will be harder to control when learning. Although i know it looks flashy to be high.

Your form actually don't look too bad. Force yourself to get round too.

I have the same exact problem as you bro. Listen to this, at one point you will want to have both legs in front of you as high as possible. If one leg starts out high, you will not be able to keep it up long enough. Start with that leg low, and then swing it up as high as you can.

Look at what you do when you start. Your problem is that when you put your left hand down, you're leaning on it enough to keep your left leg too high. Put your hand down so you are facing to the front more. Think about that. Here's the other thing you need to do. When you're standing up on both legs and you start the flare, swing your left leg as hard as you can and continue that one hard swing until you have both legs in front of you. When you have that leg in front you need to bring it as far away from your right leg so that your right is pulled toward it. That will give your right leg enough momentum to swing under your left.

Remember that your left leg has a lot of distance to travel. It's going to need to be very high in order to give your right leg enough room to clear the ground. Use your legs to swing hard, and your arms only to support yourself before you move them out of the way. Hope that helps.

plant your left hand closer to your right foot when you start. its a bit far. you are starting your flare from your side which is really odd. the kick your right leg should really do is go out straight in front of you then up. you are kicking out to your right. hope this helps a bit
