legs not going up??? - 05-02-2006, 01:40 AM

Hey, when i practice my flares, they just arn't right. I think it might be that my legs arnt kicking up close to my face enough, it's like they stick forward when i do them. I have landed a full flare like this before but my friend says they go around fast and i notice they dont feel the way flares are supost to feel.
Can anyone help me? i know it'd be hard without supplying video footage, that's why i said what my problem PROBABLY is.
If i practice stuff like pike freezes, 2 legged apple jacks, do you think that would help me kick up closer to my face?
I'm really worried about this as i practice flares pretty much everyday and have been doing so for a while now. I just feel like i'm wasting time.

so what if ur legs is not going up .. huh ?
it doesnt mean that ur flare isn`t correct .. u got ur own style .. thats it.
u go CW or CCW .. nvm when u want to start kick harder than u did before so u`ll got higher legs in the air .. remember is that u have to kick ur ass too

that probably means you're jumping into flares. practice with a video camera or in front of a reflective glass

thanks guys, i'll try kick my butt up more. I think my problem is i have a problem kicking BOTH legs up, when in the beggining you only start by swinging one leg.

There is also my shoe problem, i have real bad shoes for this, i can do them better bare footed. Unfortunantly i can't afford new shoes at the moment, but yeah, that might be one of the problems as well.

dont do it barefoot on hardwood or concrete though, you'll either get a hardwood burn with the first one or bruises with the second one

cant really do it anywhere barefooted, i do it barefooted on gym mats, real smooth concrete and carpet. I find that i'd much rather screw up on the concrete. a bruise is better then a hard burn or even cut burn.

actually when u put ur first hand down. try putting it next to ur front foot(non-swinging leg). hope that helps

Yeah, I have the same problem as you. Coincidentally, I also kick up both legs. So, logically, I guess that is probably the reason. Haha, thank you for not being able to flare too I guess.
