On June 23rd one of our own Huy Ngo aka Bboy Pain and his girlfriend Chrisalee Aparece were slain in a car Jacking. I am sure most of you witnessed the tragedy unfold on television. In a matter of hours we went from being hopeful that the kids were missing to finding that they had both been senselesly murdered. Huy's family has had to bear the financial as well as emotional burden of losing a child at such an early time in his life (17). Chrisalees family has had several charities in her name fund their hardship it is time we helped our friend Huy's family as well.
We as in the underground hip hop and dance music community have banned together to for "Battle for a Cause." The concept is a charity street dancing competition which will include bboying (Breakdancing) and Housing (Loftin, jackin or new style). We already have several people interested in judging the competition as well as several crews to battle. The prizes will be donated by various local venues, retail and restraunts there will be a grand prize but no prize money. All money taken at the door will be presented to the family of Huy Ngo at the end of our show.
The Engine room (1515 Pease St) has donated the space as well as a handful of dancers and sponsors. Our call now is to you the hip hop and dance music public. We are all united on the weekends to enjoy the sounds of the music that inspires us. Let us now be inspired enough to rally around the families that experience such unecessary tragedy.
