My name is Mike Stokely, and I'm not a breaker. I'm a freestyle footbag player, and I coordinate the Houston Skyliners Footbag Club.
The Houston footbag crew is hosting a jam at the WestFest Block Party [formerly the Westheimer Street Festival] on May 27th, called the Space City Freestyle Jam 2006. We did it once before at the WestFest in 2004, and the part that contributed the most to its success was when we had the freestyle footbag players and the breakdancers battling eachother in front of the DJ.. We drew huge crowds, and we had so much fun, I can't describe it..
So this year, I'm just doing what worked before. I'm inviting all local [and regional] bboys and girls to Houston to help promote footbag and breakdancing and to just have a great time. We are a non-profit group, and there won't be formal competition or prize money, but we will print t-shirts and have other stuff [like food and refreshments] for those who register. Players and artists will be taken care of. I'd like to make the event equal parts footbag, breakdance, and DJ'ing. So if you're interested, please let me know. I may need some help organizing it, because I don't know much about what a breakdance event requires, the culture, etc..
The festival is gonna be superfly! There will be atleast 50 bands, 5 stages, NO COVER, thousands of cool people, and lots of art, vendors, and other crazy crap. I heard David Blaine, Wynona Ryder, and Kinky Friedman will be there, among many others.. Bring your friends.
I'll update this thread soon. Please post if you can make it.
