I think what you're thinking of is the move from 'tricking' which is where you set up (standing/jogging), do a J-step, swing your back leg up hard, get your body horizontal, do 540 degreees rotation and land facing the ground (1/2 feet)...like alpha 7158's avatar
The corkscrew I've heard of is the footwork-to-floorwork transition move that looks like a knee drop variation but you twist your body so that your foot goes into the back of your knee as you go down. Your feet are both on the floor at all times during the move.
In this case, it can be considered a drop since it's kinda like a knee drop variant...
If you want a better step by step, go into a top rock, then plant your feet about your shoulder's width apart while standing. Then twist your body to whatever direction you feel like, while keeping the the balls of your feet on the floor. You do this twist at the knees (don't twist at the hips or you won't turn properly). As you're turning, lower your body with your knees. If you do it right, you'll end up like you would after a knee drop, with your back facing the direction you were originally facing when you began the move.

Takuya's correct. A corkscrew is a drop where you go to the floor by twisting your body around until you end up in the same ending position as a Kneedrop. Corkscrew is what I've heard it called by members of Zulu Kingz, Storm, and many other old school cats.
This is just another case of multiple moves with the same name. This is so goddamn common in bboying it makes me wonder why the hell people still go on about how they think "it's this instead" when the context makes it clear what it is.
The 'corkscrew drop' as previously stated is a spinning kneedrop to the floor.

Seriously asshats, its really not that complicated. A spinning kneedrop is NOT a corkscrew, a spinning kneedrop is a godamn spinning kneedrop. Sometimes kneedrops and corkscrews can get mixed up because you can do them together, which like Stiff said is called a Colt 45, where you do a kneedrop to a corkscrew up. Its stupid that so many people are arguing about this move because its one of the few moves that I feel is named exactly right. Ok so what is it:
A corkscrew in bboying is any time you are spinning while both feet are on the floor. Unlike a lot of people in this thread, I am not guessing what it is or just making shit up, I am saying what it ACTUALLY is. Ok so this move can be used as a drop, a tech, or a rise (going from footwork to toprock), and also a toprock move. MC Hammer used to do them a lot, he would jump up, land with his feet crossed, do a 360 spin spin so his feet are crossed the other (unwinding your legs, in a sense) way. This is the most basic corkscrew. To do this as a drop, just do the same thing (although you don't have to jump into it) but drop down into a crouch type position. To do this as an up, just a few ways you can do it is like from a kneedrop position (Colt45), or from the step 4 of your sixstep, from each position just rotate your body in the direction that will unwind your legs while keep both feet on the floor while standing up. Theres TONS of ways you can do a cork screw as a tech, ness shows a few in the blueprint, def an underused and basic tech. Also, you don't have to start with your legs crossed. You can start with your legs regular and twist in whatever direction, but you will only spin 180 degrees.
watch this video, skip to half way.
and ness will do a corkscrew and it will even tell you that he's doing one, they're simple enough not to need a guide
Many people here don't know what they are talking about becuse they are saying a spining gainer is a corkscrew but i think they are blind beucuse this is a bboy forum not a tricking.
Wel corkscrew is anyform of "footwork" spin it can also be used as drop basicly when your standing go on your toes put your lef leg infront of right and twist yourself to right and you will end up on floor in like knee drop position when you fell down.
