Estimated Price & Recommendations? -
09-28-2009, 08:23 AM
What would be the estimated price if I decided to buy DJ equipment for these things?
- Turntables (2) (Technics 1200) - Mixer (Club/Dance Mixer) - Club Cartridge - Headphones (Do I need to get speakers?) - FX Processor - Laptop - Serato Scratch Live Quality Wanted: Good At the moment I just want to do this for a hobby. Also, I am probably going to be mixing electronic music and breaks, possibly club music if I want to get into the business... So, do you have any recommendations on which brands would be good for mixing these genres? Also, is there anything I could do without if I wanted to DJ to these genres, but don't have a lot of money? Thanks, I appreciate those who will take their time to answer my questions and will definitely get respect from me! ![]() |

I'm gonna say roughly around 2500-3500 depending on what kind of laptop you get.

Always buy vinyl. Especially if you plan on spinning funk or b-boy breaks. The best stuff still doesn't have an mp3 release and will probably never get one and digging is an essential skill for any DJ. You can also start building up your digital collection but make sure you're getting high quality mp3's (320 kbps or Apple Lossless 256 kbps) or lossless WAV or AIFF files. I'd recommend buying your digital music from reliable sites like turntablelab, beatsource, etc. to ensure the best quality.
Also, you can get used technics from ebay for 200-300 that will be in good condition if you don't mind some cosmetic dings and scratches. You don't really need the FX processor if you get a club dance mixer...a lot of them by companies like Allen & Heath or Pioneer already have FX built in. Personally i don't think FX processors are that useful anyway. Even when I've used a mixer that had it, I've never used it. If you want a stand alone one a korg Kaoss pad is pretty reasonable and has a pretty robust feature set. |
