Iv'e been messing around on fruity loops for a while, put together a few beats, and ive had a play on virtual dj, ive mixed a bit on there, been thinking about decks for a while but there not ideal for where i am. So, im thinking about getting into laptop Dj'ing
Recently been looking into midi controllers, like the numark total control http://www.numark.com/totalcontrol and the more recent omni control http://www.numark.com/omnicontrol ive got a £700 rig desktop computer, but im thinking of selling that and buying a laptop. so, does anyone know which midi controller would be best? It would be used for bedroom use only to start, but might get it to friends party in the near future. Also is traktor worth getting? as most midi controllers are easily synced with it. And are there any ideal laptops? it would have more than just my music on it. pz |

Serato.
Serato. Serato. It's the only vinyl emulation that's been proven time and time again. Traktor and Torq have a lot of bells and whistles but there are constant complaints from users and their customer support is awful. Serato is rock solid and if you ever do have a problem their forums are an excellent source for finding out what might be wrong directly from the programmers. If you're going to do this it's best to have your laptop dedicated to nothing but DJ'ing. You want to avoid having a lot of stuff on there since it can eat up a lot of RAM and memory not to mention you run a higher risk of viruses. In terms of OS, windows and Mac work equally well. The things you want to look for are a decent amount or ram and plenty of hard drive space. I'd recommend at least a Gig of RAM to run the software well. As for MIDI controllers, probably the best out right now is the Vestax VCI300. I believe it also comes with serato software. More info here: http://www.djdeals.com/vestaxVCI300.htm |
