Fruity loops, orion platinum, audacity (just to help with extra layering)

There are better programs out there like Pro Tools. But I think Pro Tools is better for when you have sections developed and you wan to layer them. HOWEVER some people, I presume, are able to to use the program for everything (really skilled to do it).

Remember, its just my opinion (more like an assumption really).

Garageband and iDrum are good to use together.

Reason is great for everything midi if you can afford it.

Does anyone know where you can get good free drum kits/samples?
