I bought this DVD from FYE a few months ago. I bought it so my girlfriend could learn some of the more basic moves, and in hopes that it could help me with some of the harder power moves (flares, halos...). I was dissapointed when I watched it. As far as the basic moves go, some of the instructions were alright, but others were hard to follow, the move is breifly described and then an instructor performs it, and it's kind of hard to follow because you aren't told what leg goes where, or what knee to bend, you just have to watch and firgure it out. And for most, there is only a front view, which make it much harder to follow, a view from the back would have been nice...

I found the power moves instruction to be incredibly hard to follow. Very little of the moves are explained. The instructors are speaking, but they are dubbed over, making it hard to follow. And basically all that is said is "now watch so and so go into flares from toprock". There are no techniques explained or tricks or advice for the move. Basically you just see clips of the move, and then clips of the move in slow motion, which you can just see online all over. There is also a birds eye view of all the power moves, which is just silly, as you can't figure anything out from this. Another thing that is annoying is during a given move, the instructor does a bunch of toprock and other power before getting to the move you are actually trying to learn, this doesn't teach anything and is just the dancers showing off..

It may be better than the competing products, but that doesn't make it good. Overall I was dissapointed and would only suggest this to absolute begginers with NO experience. If you've been breaking for more than 6 months I would definatly have to say don't get it. I've found the text tutorials on this site much more helpfull.

2/5 stars

However, the master class with Zulu Gremlin was excellent. Great part of the DVD, that shows a lot of popping, locking, and similar dances, along with a little bboying... The extra battles were also fun to watch and the interviews were interesting. Nice bonus material.

Toprock and footwork are not synonyms for style.
