QUESTION: Why did we call this DVD "Breakdance Step-by-Step" instead of "Bboy Step-by-Step"?
ANSWER: It wasn't an easy decision. The bottom line is that we want to get this DVD out on Amazon.com and some other retailers who don't know what Bboy means. We explain on the DVD that the correct term is Bboying. I know that a lot of people feel strongly about not using the word breakdance, but out amongst the general public a lot of people still don't know the word bboy. Tane |

i understand retailers aren't all familiar with the term "breakdance"
but it seems like it was used just to get better sales i mean freshest kids used the term b-boy and it came out fine maybe i'm wrong but i think money was an issue when this dvd was named..no offense but i really don't think it should of been that way i did watch the clip though..and i think it looks really good..regardless of anything else where and when will it be available? |

We want the DVD to get out to as many people as possible.
If we were just selling it on bboy.org, we would have called it "Bboy Step-by-Step". I understand if you disagree with the decision, but I think that after you see the DVD you will see that it makes a real effort to represent bboy culture properly. I hope that you will wait until you see the DVD before judging it. If people are interested, we'll make an alternative DVD cover available for free download with "Bboy Step-by-Step" as the title. So if you feel strongly about it, you can print that out and replace the cover that comes with the DVD. The DVD should be available within the next week. Tane |

i support the decision to put 'breakdance' in the title because as Tane says it reaches a wider audience and so what if it's better for sales? that's good.
Think of it like a newpaper article. There could be a catchy name to catch your attention but then the article goes in depth on the topic and explains it. It's just like this. There's a catchy name people are familiar with and once they're hooked it educates them about the truth. It helps spread what the culture is really about-- a problem that many bboys and bgirls have been frustrated over. To sum up, I agree and support it. |

Smart move.
As long as it's made crystal clear that breakdance is the wrong name and you fully use the words bboy, bgirl and bboying from there on in with reasons given, it's a good idea. |

A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.
There's just no point. |

Its completely understandable. But just for future referance in 5 years if you make another one, you can call it, Breakin, or perhapes call it StreetDancing since you do have Popping, Locking and Uprocking in there, if i am not mistakin. Or Call it break-Boying, and have it come up if somebody types in Breakdancing at amazon. But smart move.

hello
i'm pretty new to bboying and thought it was called breakdance. i think if the dvd was not called "breakdance", i'd never had the opportunity to find it and this great place were all of us can share the same "mania" ![]() so i think the title is really perfect to make this new world being discovered by the general public. |

yeah i'm still trying to adjust to the discovery of the correct and incorrect terminology for this. i think the breakdance name was a smart move since it's only the title and not the content. >.>

Its really sad that this has to warrant any discussion at all. This DVD wasn't made for bboys, it was made for the general public. Call it breakdance, call it bboy, it doesn't really frickin matter. The dance, the culture, and everything else, irregardless stays the same. Don't be so superficial as to get all worked up over a title. Breakdance is just another term for what we do...sure its not OUR name for it, but so what? Same dance different name. Getting hung up over that is just wack.
@Topic, the word "breakdance" is more widely recognized, therefore, it is best for marketing purposes. Obviously money is a factor, as that shit wasn't created for free. Ppl gotta eat, gotta put food on the table, and I don't judge anybody for that. But not only that, in order to spread what this DVD is trying to teach, you have to reach as large an audience as possible. Therefore the term "breakdance" is the best choice. It doesn't change what we do, so chill the fuck out. |

Well if the DVD was named "Bboy Step-by-Step" then itd be sexist to the Bgirls or the girls who wanna learn. It makes more sense to use "Breakdance" as an overall term for bboying/bgirling.

B-person Step-By-Step.
Y'see, maybe 'breakdance' is a little safer to stick with. |
