This is correct but you're neglecting to mention that the lowered arm should slide to a raised position to allow the hand to plant on the ground and push off, that way you are using the force of the arm to push the ground while you slide your head towards area the shoulder was resting on.
Kicking while useful for lightening your body will harm your balance. So what it gives you in needing less strength it takes back in needing more balance. If you kick or not is up to you, just know and understand the differences.
