Shoulder Stand to Head Stand...help if you can. - 09-10-2007, 09:38 AM

yeah...just a noob to all this powermove stuff, im more of a stylish floorwork-artists. anyway...i can do a shoulder stand which is like a head stand but your on your left or right shoulder and i can do a headstand. now what i want to try is to get into a head stand from a shoulder stand...and i just want to know what i do to do this. i have a strategy which is to kick my legs upwards into the air a bit so i can get some help lifting my body to headstand. is my theory correct...if not what should i do instead. everyone's help will be greatly appreciated...kapp out.

kicking you legs up is good, but I haven't really tried to go to a headstand from shoulderfreeze, (I go to an elbowfreeze), so I'm gonna let other people give you advice about what you can do to get it right

The 'secret' to doing this move easiliy is this:

Let's say you freeze on your left arm. Now, when you kick up, SLIDE your head to the left. Like.. from the left side of your head to the top of your head.

ya, u can just kick ur legs up and pop into headstands. i can do that quite easily. It is almost the same as u babyfreeze into a headstand.

This is correct but you're neglecting to mention that the lowered arm should slide to a raised position to allow the hand to plant on the ground and push off, that way you are using the force of the arm to push the ground while you slide your head towards area the shoulder was resting on.

Kicking while useful for lightening your body will harm your balance. So what it gives you in needing less strength it takes back in needing more balance. If you kick or not is up to you, just know and understand the differences.
