What Moves to learn first - 04-21-2006, 12:04 PM

Hello. I got pretty bored sitting on my pc eating dognuts so i fought im gona make a guide to show new people what moves they should learn first including power and wich ones are hardest so here we go.

1. UpRock

Easiest move ever but also the one that will need most working with as you have to make this one very individual. Uprock Teaching Clip

2. Footwork

Second most important move that has to be as individual as possible. Unless you want to become a straight power B-boy then these are the moves you have to work with very hard to make them look as cool as possible.

So wich one to learn first ? Well i figured that most people (i think) start with the 6 step. But there is an easier one that i started with called the 3 step. If you get that down then you can do all the rest. Simply Because you will only add a step or take away a step to make a different one.

3 Step Guide Video Included

Next you can learn the 6 Step

**6 Step Tutorial**

And Some variations if you want.

footwork beyond 6-step

Swipes

These are quite cool moves wich you can combo really well with you footwork. Shouldnt take too long to learn neither. Maybe 2 or 3 days.

One-legged swipe picture guide

Freezes

Next thing and i believe this one is one of the best ones to get the girls cheering is freezes. There are many different variations and these are one of the hardest moves and can be painfull if your wrist is not strong enough and you dont practice regulary. These are the ones were you stick your arm in your stomach and balance your whole body on that arm (or 2).

I found a VERY good guide to show you the best ones.

If you are having problems with your wrist then come here.
how do i build wrist strength

---- Now you should learn this move a kneedrop it will give you chance to go down from a Up rock down on the floor with style----

Handglides

Now that you can do some freezes you should be able to get into a handglide freeze (one arm only) and start to spin on it. works really well with wristbands or jumper sleeves on your hand. Then you learn turtles perhaps but they require lots of stregth.

---- Right about now you should be able to try and do some handstands (not the handstand powermoves but just some handstands) ill explain later -----

Windmills

If you can get the handglides down you will be able to finally work on one of the best, coolest and sexiest moves in b-boying the windmill

----Just a small notice beyond i will not explain any kicks and flips sorry.----
---- By now you should be able to do some harder Drops like the.

And Coindrop

Handstand Moves

If you followed my advice you should be pretty cool with handstands now. Now you can learn some kicks and airfreezes. Once you are conmfortable and can hold handstands for quite a while maybe 20 seconds try 1990s and 2000s
1990's Decent Video Guide

Headspins

One of the harder powermoves headspins require good and regular practice
Headspin Guide For the Newb
Can take up to 3 months if you do not practice regulary.

The rest is up to you. If you can do all of the above you can call yourself a true b-boy. and dont forget practise the ones at the top the most as they are the key in style. Good luck

The only thing wrong with one of its claims is that headspin is very overrated n its actually easy since the technique is easier than any other powermove. Just takes practice.

^^ Theres an even better "guide" than this one (not saying this one isn't good) already stickied, its purpose and content is slightly different though.

I personally dont think 3 step is easier than 6 step and you linked headsping guide instead of suicide guide.

Nice though.

...Wait, did u even say that its easier, or dat you should just learn it first? LoL.

I took the suicide one away sorry about that. Reason why i put 3 step first is because its the footwork i learned first. Of course everyone will have a different opinion on this or maybe im just stubborn but for me it was easier.
