[newbie] mills help - 06-06-2005, 10:57 PM

Hey everyone im new here and i just decided to start breakdancing last weekend after i saw a video of junior. i can already do some basic moves, nothing too crazy:

turtle
baby stall
handstand
headstand
hand glide

what would be the best way to approach learning windmills and flares? i know that they are not the same thing but are sorta similar. any help?

after one week....that's good man. altho i don't see toprock and six step in there :P those are basics too. Anyway for millz, handglide definetely helps. As for flares, good luck. They are tough, after one weekend. I HIGHLY don't reccomend you try them unless your all muscle and balance. Work on what you got, add in some style, and check out the windmill vids.

You need to whip your legs.
After you collapse you should whip your legs and stay high on your back

Learn all your basic steps n keep rocking .. rock every session, every time the song changes, every time you're too tired or lazy to work on something else

You're not done learning your basics (read: toprock and steps) yet .. they take freaking forever to really get down, so keep drilling and drilling them. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you have it down.

And mills uhh think circular, not kicks but rotations, collapse quickly, stab high and not for too long

it's just practice

good luck

hey good luck learning windmills. remember, if you don't practice, you won't get mills. i'm not sure how long it took me. i was playing around with mills for the first 2 months of bboying. (not practicing seriously) Then I started learning windmills seriously. After about 2 months. I quit for a while. 3 months later I started learing them again. After 3 months I finally learnied mills. It took me the average 5 months of practicing SERIOUSLY. If you are lucky, you could learn them in a week like wonderkid Bboy Marco. I recommend practicing for 30 minutes to 1 hour a day.

Thank you for everything.
