THE BEST GUIDE OF THE HANDSTAND FOR 20 - 25 sec - 06-05-2005, 02:02 PM

just get a room and stand near the wall ok now just do a simple handstand with the wall.
1=try staying there for as long as you can.
once you get stamina of standing much longer then move to second step.
2=do the handstand but do not touch the wall
3=(THE TIP IS ) shift your all weight to your front when you are going to fall infront then use your fingers, your finger is the key,
4= and when you overcome to much do be afraid push the wall and come back again.
5= practice practice practice
and u will achieve
i got handstand fo 30 seconds without wall!
if any question then add me arsi_2004@yahoo.com

Breezy...if you can't kick your legs up to handstand with a wall..then... just put your head down with your hands with your legs on your elbows...then lift into a handstand...something I do if i get bored trying to handstand kicking myself up...although it requires some strength to lift and balance rightaway

hmm, I'd say, and this is from martial arts and a long time ago of gymnastics expiriance, to start learning handstands away from a wall for a little bit at least, just to learn to go into them, and how to fall out of them without hurting yourself, cause if you kick up to the wall, and still fall, you'll probably get hurt worse than landing on flat ground... But I mean, once you can at least get into a hand stand the wall is a great idea.

I totally agree - I learnt to walk on my hands without using a wall once. It might not be the best way....

I think the hardest thing is is pulling in the head for a hollowback. To this day (even though i do it) it still feels wierd and i can't hold it over 4-5 seconds. But yeah the wall is a help, just do grow reliant on it. A good thing is learning how to fall. this helps ALOT from my personal experience.cuz if you land flat on your back from excessive wall use...ouch.

Is there a trick to balancing yourself so you do not fall?

for my handstands balance comes in a mixture of different ways... such as grabbing the ground as if you control it, or legs straight up keeping the surface area right above your shoulders... i learned to just jump into it, but if the wall helps use it..

id say about 20 cm but as the others said dont grow reliant on the wall. practise outin the open even if u fall almost straight away u will get the hang after a while

do it like hollowbacks.one leg vertical one leg horizontal.this gives you perfect balance,and when you can balance well,straighten both legs vertical.the fingertips technique is also good.another technique would be the arm technique.like if you're falling over,use your hands to push yourself back and vice versa.look at vice president's clips if you wanna get a better picture.peace
