New to B-boying - 10-21-2009, 09:24 PM

Hello guys, im new to b boying but i was always was interested in breakdancing since i was a little kid.
I started about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

So far i got the 6 step, 4 Step, and the 3 Step.
The only freeze that i mastered is the Baby freeze. I can do it pretty good.
Is the baby freeze a basic move?

I'm currently learning the shoulder freeze. I got it but, i just cant balance well enough. Any tips on balance would be nice, same for hand stands, i have enough strength but its only the balance and maybe a little fear of falling over.

Any moves i should learn thats not too hard but its important to know how to do it.
I'm more interested in more of a power move, something big, and special.
But i'll take any suggestions for a beginner.

Also any workouts specifically for breakdancing? I was told im strong for my age (14 in a week, 15) but im also weighing 160lb at about 5' 8'' which i think is high for my height.

Thank You

hey what i started to do was do headstand and handglide freeze. once you get that i suggest learning turtle spin and with balancing a handstand you have to make sure you are breathing the whole time, steady and consistantly. next put your hands in an position you want to help you balance they dont have to b even next to each other. and try it with your legs open. hope i helped and have fun bboying

start with up-rock,brooklyn,six step (please do it right and count the steps),frezze (baby),handstand balance, and head stand balance ,even if not wanting to do headspins u will need to get used to up side down and blood going to head and if cant do handstands go against wall about 6 inchs away with hands or have friend spot

respect,comment,add me

Thank you for all your replies.
I'll try some of the power moves that were suggested.

Any workouts specifically for breakdancing?
I can do about 30 push ups without stopping.
Or what part of the muscles in your body should I workout more?
The arms are used alot so... Triceps ( I don't think strong biceps are needed, Is it? but then I really don't know much) . But would working out the legs will help with breakdancing? Any more tips are appreciated.
Thank you again to everyone
Haha I typed all this on my iPod touch

don't worry too much about the workouts. Practicing the moves is way more importent so I would suggest working more on the moves

yeah triceps are important but by practicing freezes they get a lot stronger anyway so it's not necessary to work them out. same with abs and shoulders.

and have you started toprock?

delts, shoulders, tricepts, forearms, upper back, lower back, abs, quadracepts, hamstrings to name a few

make sure you have a good wrist for foundation you're gonna have a hell of a hard time doing certain things. i have a weak wrist so i had the hardest time doin power so some of the impact my wrist would be received wrong.

for balance this is something you will have to practice and get over time. some ppl just have natural balance some ppl don't, it can be attainted.

you need your baby, turtle, hang glide, handstand, headstand foundation freezes b4 goin further.

footwork you need 6, 4, 3, 2 , cc's, transitions are a few things to try out.

Learn some top rocking. Turtles is somewhat an easy move just takes practice.
