10-14-2009, 08:11 PM
can you guys please help me with the mills, i've bruised myself many many times and i just want to make my practices more progressive rather than more hurtful, and you might have to excuse the weird clothing, i read to put on lots of cushioning.

you're not lifting your legs high enough. spread your legs further up and swing them in a fuller circle. also, let your legs give you momentum and carry you through the rotations instead of twisting yourself.
at around 1:00 in, you can see that you left your left leg but let it drop way too low and too fast before your right leg swings. i fix this by lifting both legs up high and then practicing the swing motion before collapsing. also, remember the swing is in the shape of a circle, so don't hold back good luck, keep at it=] ps; this should help. i know it did for me |

i just tried and seriously i know your suppose to swing down but everytime i do that my leg tends to hit the ground too fast and thers no parallel motion afterward or if i try to swing through my right leg i end up not doing it right and i land on my left shoulder which hurts like a bitch right now
and thanks for the tips and video, i think i missed something, that u had to kick up with ur right leg first and then quickly swing ur left leg down, i dont think i had kicked it up enough through the times i've practiced, i've got bruises everywhere lol |

ahh don't worry i feel you i had the same problem, always landing on my shoulder and breakin blood vessels but you'll get better gradually and you wont even realize it , so keep trying when you swing down, be sure you're not swinging directly downwards. at the starting position, spread your legs in a WIDE v. then bring them up with your weight to the upper half of your body, making sure your legs are up HIGH. in that position, bring your left leg up and your right leg down slightly, then swing your left leg in a semi circle under your right leg which is simultaneously swinging up too. remember to keep your legs up up up! dont be afraid to have your head only a few inches off the ground keep at it, and study slow motion mill videos. they help =] |

rotate along your arm more. its hard to get any momentum from a still position. just look at anyone who does windmills starting from that position. they don't just go from freeze to windmills, they rotate on their stabbed arm before actually kicking off to give some speed (hence your fingers point to the side or backwards).

actually when you're higher you'll end up collapsing higher if you do it right so that way you don't hurt your hip. try to keep your head close to the ground when you collapse, it helps a lot. if you start hurting your shoulder instead that means you've improved

dude, you've gotta open up your frikkin legs, I'm a newb and I can see that. Just compare yourself to somebody on youtube who can do the windmill. You need to swing your OPEN legs and collapse, it seems like you just roll over onto the ground with your legs in your chest.
Swing your right leg to the right and up HARD, then kick your left leg. Start with that. Keep'em straight. Nothing anybody says will help unless your legs are straight. |
