I agree and disagree. Moves are nice, but only if they are to the music. I think that baby freeze variations on beat look better then jackhammer off beat. Look at roxrite, he got 2nd place in red bull bc one 2007 and he did baby freeze . I agree the USA is at the tip of style more then any other country (almost except hungry, check them out, they are so nice) but there are four elements to breakdance, and although america has toprock and footwork, they are missing freezes and power. On the other hand korea has no toprock whatsoever, and barely any footwork and they are at the "top" of the game. USA just needs to step it up

Well if you watch all of boty 2005 and boty 2006 you'll see that most people disagree with how it was judged. Let me correct that, almost everyone disagree with how it was judged. The battle portion and the showcase. And because American's think they are the shit (they are the ones who invented cocking) they feel a need to exagerate the biases that may or not be there. By doing so they only limit their horizons though because nobody really cares if America doesn't do boty, they just think that America is a bunch of wosses who are too scared to loose. Which is sorta true. Get it?

MaDD actually has a point...this thread is full of dickriding.
Personally I hate BOTY, and hardly consider it much of a jam at all. Mostly, its showcases, choreographed routines, which takes a HUGE part of the essence of bboying away. SURE there is a battle portion, but honestly, I've never found BOTY battles that amazing. And even then, battles aint the main focus, so to me, BOTY fails. Its just a commercial event that promotes mass biting, dickriding, and bitching as far as im concerned. Now I dont know what the fuck is up wit this Korea vs USA vs (insert random country here) bullshit but yall need to chill. Yes, Korean crews are on top right now in the mainstream bboy circuit. On the real tho, it doesn't mean they're actually on top....they're just more recognized and more commercial then say, the US. The reason being that its not a commercial industry here, as someone else said already. The same applies to other random countries and whatnot...just because your the most publicized, doesn't mean your the greatest...word? Dope undiscovered crews are in all kinds of places man...the world is WAY too big to be claimin top spot. Different countries place different emphases on different elements of bboyin. For the USA, its mostly on tops/footwork and individual style. In Korea, its more power/freezes/blowups and individual style in relation to power. Other countries have their own different emphases too. Now it doesn't mean that "korea has no topr0x" or "US has no power", etc etc. It just means that different emphases are placed..which is fine...who gives a shit. Personally i think the whole bboy scene is really lackin on the "soul" tip. Right now i just mostly see kats thrown down impressive and intricate moves/sets, but i aint feelin it ya kno? Yea its clean, yea it looks sicc, but u can TELL when a dancer is feelin the music and dancin from his soul. Most of the time I dont feel it. I think the scene has lost the dance aspect, and now its more about who can do the most impressive and creative shit. But thats what i think from what i've seen. Peace! |

Korea's lost to USA almost every time they've gone against each other in International competition...Freestyle Session 10 year anniversary, UK B-boy Championship, Freestyle Session Japan, Evolution 3, etc. American crews don't support BOTY due to the actions of the promoter and how he has treated b-boys in the past. It's a wack jam that's poorly organized and contributes nothing to the scene. It has nothing to do with "Scared to lose." That's some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Korea's good and they're starting to get more well rounded but they've been lacking battle strategy and aggressiveness. Which is the main reason they usually lose against some of the american crews...Watch Evolution 3...Zulu Kings didn't beat Korea, Korea beat themselves because of piss-poor strategy. However, Korea's getting better since they've started coming to America. Personally I think the crews to really watch for this year on the international scene aren't the Koreans or the Americans but the Scandinavian and Russian crews like Flow Mo, Ghost Crew, and Top9. |

Like I said...Gamblers beat themselves in Evo 3. The b-bboys and routines they had were used at the wrong times to answer MZK's sets. They simply weren't exploiting MZK's weaknesses (which they had quite a few). MZK's strength is in their strategy which is exactly why they won at Evo 3...it was far from a robbery if you know how b-boy battles are judged. I assume it's the same reason they won FSS. Pllus they had a much, much stronger squad at FSS than at Evo.
And this year will be the same as every other IBE...Korean fans will say Korea won everything no matter what happens. |
