Yo, seriously, Kanye has definitely improved lyrically. I mean, he's no Nas, but let's keep things in perspective. He just started rappin' not too long ago. But his really is the best mainstream CD I have copped in a long ass time. No joke. I'm dead serious about this.

COPP GRADUATION. It's worth it.

Wow.. talk about generalization. I was kinda planning on buying Kanye's album.. but I DLed it.. and I still know who Necro is. =/

Only real reason I'm excited bout this tho is just the fact that 50 is being outdone. That's all I need to see.

you cant honestly say that. Even if you think they both suck you have to at least realize kanye is better

I'll just start off by saying the majority rappers today have no intention of supporting hip-hop culture. If you don't support the culture, then you aren't really hip-hop.

I admit that curtis is not that great... compared to get rich or die tryin(which i thought wuz one of the hottest cds made).. but now his beats are just all of the same thing.. so is his lyrics.. as for kanye chedda... he just pisses me off, like his rhetoric and everything about him.. the college boy icon is kind of gay if u ask me.. (pink polo sweatshirt...real straight kanye... )and i really dont think strongers that great of a song... w/e, im stickin to 80s + 90s oldschool , eric b, rakim, stetsasonic, NWA, all tht gud stuff.. but if i had to put it in one vote, id vote for 50.

i'm asking these questions out of honesty and all i'm curious about are honest answers; so you know up front, i don't listen to mainstream music, much less rap, at all. thus, i don't know what most rap groups are making songs about but i have an idea (and it's mostly negative).

lastly, any assumptions you see in my questions below are because of my lacking knowledge of the rap game since run DMC. just correct me if you know more and i'll consider your explanations.

why do you guys listen to these mainstream rappers?
even if they do sound good and have lyrical skills, what sense does it make when you know they're mostly negative in their message and image?
i thought rap was the distorted element of today's material driven hip hop generation---if this is still true, why then do bboys buy 'their' CDs?

lastly, if all that separates a rapper from the rest is his lyrical skill, flow, beat choices, and technical etcs, who is really 'better' than whom?
the spoken word is a powerful form of expression and i think most mainstream rap artists today abuse it for their personal gain. i guess their selfishness is reinforced by record sales and fans.

I like music, and it doesn't have to be underground to be good, there's nothing wrong with having an open ear.

A lot of bboys dont, they will talk about stuff they downloaded or heard on the radio, but then again some people just like to buy CDs. Personally the only times i will buy someones album, is if i go to their show and they actually represent hip hop. I dont really go to any huge venues, its mainly underground-semi underground rappers (swollen members, Sweatshop Union, Blackalicious (hes not really underground but hes good), etc...). But part of this may be that I am cheap, and dont like buying CD's period, haha

i want Kanye to outsell him, but i want both to stfu and make some REAL shit.

i know Kanye is good enough for that, not Fiddy. even if there both trash, i know Kanye could've been recycled.

Just bought the Curtis album.
Dude at the store said they been selling about the same.

LoL @ AK asking for Necro's album at the store, n them not knowing what kind of computer program that is.

Maybe- 50 Cent > Kanye West

...but...

CURTIS > GRADUATION.

By "No one" I mean the people who love Kanye and say "Oh Kanye is real hip-hop, he raps about real things. TIME FOR TOP FIVE: KaNyE WeST, T.I., LiL WaYnE, 50 CEnT, AND TUPAC!

Let it be known that I am not saying Tupac is a bad artist, but falsely considered the greatest emcee to ever live even when his career was fueled and powered by beef.
