mingling with bboy's. - 03-06-2008, 09:54 AM

I'm just curious, getting into the whole bboy thing. I was curious do bgurls do everything seperate from bboy's, some, or none? Most of the video's I've seen has mostly been an entire bgurl team vs bgurl team or bgurl team vs a bboy team.
But I don't really see bgurls and bboy's on the same team, especially in large competitions like red bull or UK championships.

So do bgurls just like to practice and team with other bgurls or do they actually mingle with bboy's too?

there are more that mingle w/ bboys than that associate mainly w/ bgirls... plus, even those that are in an all bgirl crew... mingle w/ bboys. There are way more bboys than bgirls.

Most girls that break aren't really dedicated to bboying and hiphop as a whole. Most are just "bboy groupies." And typically, chicks that break just do hand stands and inverts, poses, etc. Not really getting down and learning the things that matter. There are some that are dope though, just not many. I know alot of girls that break, but only a few that deserve to be called a Bgirl.

and this would explain the tone of your other post, huh? and that's what sucks... the fact that what you said is true... most 'bgirls' are exactly what you described, and that's why there's that general perspective on 'bgirls.' I agree w/ you... I had to convince the people I started learning from and dancing with that I was serious and willing to work for it...

And that's why you're dope. Even if there aren't many its good to know there are some girls who are on the level.

I'm just another up-and-comer paying dues.
I think I'm possibly the slowest learner on all of bboy.org haha.

Word. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, but its true. Plus, I live in cali and I see all these girls prancing around like they're hot shit when they can't even dance. But thats good you're really serious. With that determination you could really become a dope bgirl.

On the topic of mingling w/ bboys... I have my bgirls I chill with, but I set my goals based on my guys (or try to). There's a different standard set for bboys than bgirls, so if I aim higher, I have a better chance to achieve what I'm aiming for... there's a diff standard for it all: "bgirls" will practice and get good at hitting a bunch of freezes, but they tend to go for slower, (sometimes and sometimes not) cleaner, smoother footwork. My goal is to keep a strong speed (not rushing, which can be my problem), a mix of smooth and sharp, complex combos and footwork and good transitions and flow. (summary?)

anyway... all that to say... mingling with bboys is good for me. I'm playing in the bboy game, not the bgirl game. :}

Hehe..On a side-note, both guys and girls go to the bboy club at my school, but it seems that all the girls practice together and all the guys practice together. I've tried teaching chicks how to break, but to be honest it's difficult because of my level of comfortability. It's alot easier to help people when you can get hands on and show them exactly where to move a specific body part. Kinda hard to show girls without looking like i'm just trying to touch them.

Haha, you guys make me feel bad. English is my 3rd language so expressing myself with words is somewhat difficult for me. No excuse though :P

wow. great english then.. i wouldn't have even thought twice about it... however, it sounds like you prefer to help people by manually moving them into the right position. Usually people just tell them where to move specific parts of their body... like, "Hey, you need to step out further with that leg" or "drop your hips lower" etc

Haha, Spanish is also my fourth
And yes you are correct, sometimes people don't know how to rotate their body correctly. For example when doing baby freezes, new people tend to not understand how to move their hips, or which way to move them. So i'm just like "Ok this part goes here..and this one goes there" Haha, sometimes its alot easier to directly get involved with the person.
