Question Bgirls Lack Style? - 02-11-2008, 10:05 AM

So I'm going to try desparately not to get flamed here lol... Keep in mind that I , myself, am a bgirl so I'm not being sexist...

Girls breaking is amazing for so many obvious reasons... But I personally find that it's not as asthetically pleasing when compared to watching bboys... They can pull of decent power, and look good with sick freezes, but tops and floorwork seem to lack flavor. It just seems less solid, less controlled, and doesn't have the "in your face" appeal that it should. I don't know whether it's the boobs, the ass, the hips, or the lower position of the center of gravity, but it just seems off lol. It's like they're self-conscious, and hesistant, so it doesn't flow as smoothly.

What do you guys/girls think?

it may not be as hyping as a bboy's style but bgirls are mainly known for their style

Not trying to sound sexist but due to lack of strength its harder for bgirls to pull of some of the moves that bboys do. because of that they harness the skill in style. At least thats what i've come to believe

In many cases, I do think their hesitant, doesn't neccesarily mean they lack style though. I just looks to me like they don't believe in theirselves enough - it looks to me as if their mindset is "oh Im a girl, I will never be as dynamic as that bboy"

i think you missed bgurl's kobo showcase. she's got an attitude alone that would burn most of the scrubs in the online battles.

also check out the bgirl in this vid:
Shining: A short film by Moshen of Skill Methodz

...and those are only 2 recent, online examples.
in general, girls don't have as much testosterone as guys but that only takes away a small, top portion of the moves list. tops and footwork don't require great strength---only swiftness, flexibility, and other qualities both genders are capable of. everyone has a style waiting to be created.

also, physique isn't anywhere as near important as rawness. just bring the fire and people will be in awe regardless of how you look or who you are.

perhaps you haven't found any impressive bgirls because your exposure is limited. in which case, we should remind ourselves that the scene is predominated by a male demographic. therefore, you've probably associated bboys with the standard when really, the standard is not a group but a perfection: originality.

Yeah the big hups with skinny legs can make some things look bad, but overall I would have to completely disagree. Girls are generally less athletic so styles and flow are what they seem to focus on.

I think one of the dissconnects is simply that A LOT of new b-girls get intimidated by the "aggressivee" nature of b-boys in a cipher, and as such they hold back or try to be cute. That is just how a lot of young b-girls respond and as a result, you can see the passive traits carry on later down the line. The experienced b-girls I know that have been through it all seem to understand that they will loose more battles with a passive attitude, and so they train the same way as the b-boys.

That being said, everyone is different and grows at different rates and in different ways as we all know.

First off a Girl should never lack STYLE!. Anyone for that matter. Style is not footwork. Style is NOT Foundation. Style is not dancing in a way to impress JUDGES that want you to dance like they did. Style definately not cloning yourself to break like a dude. Back in the day. Girls had more confidence to be girls. Im sorry but a girl getting down and breaking like the in season popular B-Boy is a little off to me. A person can have style in the way they walk, talk and laugh so why not dance movements.

Those two girls killed it... that was some ill shit. Anyhow I think the reason the girls you are talking about kemist are timid and do sometimes lack style is in their genes. Guys genetically are generally more competitive and pompous chauvinistic beings (which quite often is not a good thing). If you notice there are ways more guys that are full of themselves than girls, and they also tend to physically fight more often. But that isn’t to say that girls cant be arrogant and physical when need be. well bboying is a lot about here's my shit and I’m gonna whopp your ass with my aggressive style; innately showing off that you can beat them (the dance actually stemmed from a solution to physical violence). So you just have to get those girls hyped to whopp some male ass like the two in the video above did.

Are girls worse at style? No way, they just need to show off a bit and be proud of it!

Sorry but this is not true. Again males genetically are built with more potential strength in muscle. Also again this isn’t to say that women can’t be stronger than a man. There are plenty of women who are much stronger than most men. But if you take the strongest man in the world and compare him to the strongest woman it would be no contest. It is just in our genes that men have a higher strength potential. Girls are not lacking strength though if they want it.

Well I want to even out this post a bit because I feel like I am coming off as sexist, but in reality I am just explaining human evolution. Women are completely equal in my eyes but we do maintain some specific differences (not negatives) particular to each gender that make us men and women. Otherwise we would be a sexual and that would be weird...

Wow I spent way to much time on that post lolz

Keep in mind that whilst men are built for raw power, women are built for longevity and have substantially stronger mental and physiological makeups than most men. Basically the female of our species is built to last and the male is built to be powerful, so their's trade offs on both sides.

Peace

I've noticed that a lot of bgirls (from what I've seen) are kinda hesitant to really get into things. That and I've noticed that they sometimes get kinda hyped up easily cuz ppl cheer for bgirls for doing things they usually wouldn't cheer for <_<...

But there's always exceptions.
