a thread to discuss longevity of bgirls and their breaking.

what keeps you going? what fuels your fire and makes you hunger for dancing? what keeps you from quitting?

The question comes into my head a lot... especially seeing here on our site how many bgirls 'sign in' and how few seem to be active here or input here... or they do for a bit and disappear...

I know being on this site and being active isn't a sign of your bboying, but still... it makes me wonder.

What got you started? What made you want to start?
What keeps you going? What makes you wanna dance?
What makes you want to improve? What drives your practicing?
How far do you want to go? What are your ambitions and goals?

Just thought it'd be a good discussion... maybe ;]

Cheerz.
(and i'll answer this myself when I get a chance)

[NOTE: bboys ARE allowed to discuss in the thread... but really, I'm not looking for your answer to the questions for yourself unless it relates to bgirls or is included to explain a point... does this make sense or am I just being confusing? heh]

What got me started? I always have a hankering to try new things, and i've always loved watching Hip hop dancing, breakdancing..it's really kewl! =P Most people know me as sorta quite I guess, they don't realize im pretty crazy.. So if I get out there and start dancing or somthing, some expressions are priceless.
No one in my area bboys that I know of, mostly made up of cowboys and lazy bums.
as for improvments and goals, Im more of the see the little picture befor the big picture sorta person I guess o.O Don't really know how to explain it, but instead of trying to perfect this huge set or somthing, i'd take it in tiny steps, and maybe improve a hand placement or somthing then go on. Then a month down the road I can look back and see the improvment..course i've only been bgirling seriously 4 months now. =P
I hope I stick with it, No..I will stick with it.Quitting is the worst feeling in the world when it comes to this sorta thing. I've never dropped out of a crosscountry race..I don't plan on dropping out of this. It's fun doing it myself, When I leave this blackhole of corn and cows, im sure it will be fifty times as fun with other people..and probably more goals and motives will arise..
But for now and always, I do it cuz I love it. YEA!

hey!
breakin seems to be the only thing in my life that's constant at the mo. i'm lookin after my two lil girls all day, and it stresses me out. i think when i'm dancin i feel like i'm in control. i look forward to trainin and improving (altho that's pretty slow for me). i can't imagine quitting as i need something creative in my life and i don't have the desire to paint or mix like i did before havin the girls.
not really sure why i started, i kinda got drawn into it through being into the hiphop scene, and i had two really good friends who used to go to the trainin sessions so i kinda went to do something with them really. they don't break any more but i'm more into it for the dancing now so i've got proper motivation to practice for myself.
what makes me wanna dance? music!!! what keeps me going? the love of music, and knowing that i could be better.
what makes me want to improve and what drives me practicing - having this picture in my head of how great i could be, and then throwing down and realising that urrm i'm not that great ... yet...
ambitions and goals are to throw down and regularly be like 'yeah that was cool' rather than 'oops, have to work on that then..'
i think girls and boys are different and that's why there's less bgirls who are really dedicated. you need to be confident in fully expressing yourself physically in front of other people, something which i think alot of girls aren't comfortable with - possibly due to the thing of guys eyeing up girls for sex. there's also the battle mentality which doesn't seem to be built into females so much - guys seem to love to compete with one another, whereas girls tend to work together. also there's not so much inspiration about for girls, music vids seem to usually show girls just shakin their asses and being there for the sex. so come on bgirls, keep at it and if u can recruit some new girls to train with you, give them as much support and encouragement as u can so they stick at it.
peace xx

... yes this thread is about discussing "Why"... it's already stated or clear that what you said is a problem...

great responses! will still answer it myself when I get around to it! I think it's a good topic to throw around as it seems to be a universally seen and understood problem.
