Tall B-Girls -
09-25-2006, 04:56 PM
Hey all, I'm a newly initated B-girl at my schoold break club. There's no doubt I got hip-hop moves but I'm having the hardest time learning how to break. I am tall (5'10) and I know that for breaking its better to be short. Is there any hope for me? Can tall girls break dance?

absolutley. everyone can learn to break. remember it isn't about what disadvantages you have, but what advantages you have.
"Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has a certain obligation: to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it."-- Pope John Paul II

I'm 5'10, whilst that may be tall for a girl, it's not really that tall for a guy and i don't see how that is going to hinder you in bgirling, i have friends who are bigger than me and manage to learn just fine, in fact it makes generating momentum for mvoes such as mills and other ish easier, you may just have it harder with footwork etc.
Don't let anything hold you back, height matters for little if you're dedicated and persevere.
Peace

The taller you are, the doper your spin moves will look. People who have long legs that mill real fluid and fast look so friggen' dope. But as previously said, it may be harder to get down the fundamentals, but not necessarily. Every bboy has his/her style, just custom tailor your movement to your body type and your style will blossom.

My friend Erika is at least 5"8 and she's a hella dope bgirl, real smooth. You get more leverage from your legs for whipping on windmillls, 90's and headspins the longer they are. Dizi from Motion Disoderz, a bunch of guys from Wanted Posse, Steelo and Mike Murda are all over 6 feet, it won't hold you back as long as you practice hard. Good luck - BBoy GRIZ

True! The saying where there's a will, there's a way! Even though i'm not a girl, i'm still pretty tall (5"11-6")! If you want something that badly, and wud be prepared to train hard despite the odds, then anything is possible!!!
A Bboy is like an artist and the floor is his canvas and on this canvas he will create his very best masterpiece for the world to see.
