its all part of learning. keep practicing w/o da wall even if u get the wind knocked out of u. try to land into a bridge position if u fall and den twist over so u dont fall on ur back. also u can try doing handstands on the wall so dat ur belly is on da wall.

hope dat helps

point is, when you fall the other way, make sure your feet lands on the ground first, instead of your back. this way, even if you land on your back later, the impact wouldn't be that great. of course if you can, land on your legs and maintain that position (thus the bridge position). and all will be well.

You should try learning how to roll when you land, because I know that helps tons. I'm still learning handstands, too, when it comes to physical work I'm actually pretty slow... But just keep trying w/o the wall, I'm sure you'll get it eventually. Also, when you feel like you're falling over, try and shift your weight simountaneously between your hands and feet. This is what I'm working on, and I find that it is really helpful. pz

instead of going right up against the wall at first, try doing them a leg's length away, so that you can kick and tap the wall with one leg and find balance with the other one

it's going to take you a LONG time to do handstands without the wall if you start learning with it, but seeing as you're having problems falling on to your back, what you can do with the foot tapping thing is get used to BENDING YOUR KNEES when you fall backwards, so that you can catch yourself on your feet.

another thing you can do is try a series of totally NON COMMITTAL handstands across a room or a hallway, where you just throw your hands down and kick up, and then bring your legs right back down where they started, take a step forward, and try it again... and again... and again . The repetition will really help you to find where your balance point is

as for STICKING IT up there - tense up your arms and PUSH HARD... look either down or forward - one of these will be an easier balance for you , both work fine, in the end, for different things

but dont just noodle when you're up there - be stiff and strong, then when you feel like you're falling, bend your knees and catch the ground with your feet - eventually you can also land in a bridge and then stand back up , that's pretty cool too

you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers

When I learned handstands I used the wall a little but I find the wall is mainly useful for getting strength for handstands. Try push ups against the wall and try lifting each hand for a little amount of time. Then when you try your handstands again you wont run out of energy so quick.
Have a good one

They have given you sum good advice! I know I am lousy at handstands but I have taught people and they have been sucessful! You could also get a friend to catch oyur feet and then to let go when you feel comfortable!
