Motivation... - 09-26-2004, 11:36 AM

Have any of you Bgirls ever felt like whats the point in breakin' and ever feel like giving up? Where I train there are a lot of bboys that are really good and they keep tellin me they don't like Bgirls cos they will never be at the same standard as them, its really getting me down cos Im still learning the basics. Anyone else ever had this problem?

And in this high noon rebellion I'm totally cartoon

Don't ever listen to that bullshit. You can do whatever you put your mind to. If your hearts in it, you'll get it.

Don't give up and don't let some arrogant bboys bring you down either. Keep practicing and show them some determination.

One life one tribe one love one blood
Too much has been shed its time to rise above
You don’t have to understand it and you dont have to like it
But were much more powerful when we're UNITED
Ignorance fight it Knowledge embrace it
Have sympathy for people who too scared to change shit
Dont talk it just live it
Enjoy life absorb every minute
Quit placing the blame
Put your mind towards change
Hold the torch, light the flame, make a difference
One love one nation lets get uplifted

Well last night proved that it is all crap! - 09-27-2004, 01:09 PM

I have been doing Funk Styles and Breakin(altho I don't Break now due to age etc) for 24 years and I had a lot of opposition. I kept doing it. Even performing solo at Festivals and nightclubs! When I go out tho I like to dance with others and this was a problem since the boyz back the, most of them, didn't want me to do it! I continued regardless. I don't hear them.
I have danced with some really cool people over the years though and they were people that encouraged me. They were all guys and they were mostly from the states! I just ahd to wait to meet the right people!
The last night after not being out in the public eye for a long time I go to a think called Dancekool where there are battles and a friend is the host. He calls me up and gives me credit! They haven't seen an ol woman dance like this. He he! I quite enjoyed their reactions. Pity no girls came up to me! Only guys. Both breakers and poppers! Was enlightening!
I had a lot of fun!

Bullshit. If those bboys were GOOD, they'd help out the little guy...this is why I prefer to call myself a popper...they're usually more helpful to beginners (Eh rap_attack? lol). I personally feel a lot of bboys give those willing to help out a bad name.

the only place where i ever get shit from bboys is on this website! hahaha. the bboys i hang with are mature enough to understand that sometimes due to a variety of reasons, bgirls dont get the moves as fast as them or whatever!

my advice, try to find some other bboys to dance with if they are going to put you down as a negative environment is not condusive to a good laning environment! even better find some girls to dance with!

dont push me cuz i'm close to the edge, i'm tryin not to lose my head

It is true tinyD I see what you mean! Things seem to have changed. Although no one is giving me dis since being on this site but I guess it is because they think that all the years I have been doing this I must be good. Maybe, maybe not!

M0wicz-Yeah I have gotten better reactions from Popper than breakers! I never quite thought of that until now. Doesn't matter anyway cause I can be a bigger asshole than them if they want sum! LOL
It does look bad for them to be unhelpful. People progress at different rates.
Sumtimes I think it is communication problem. Maybe the people that are highly critical can't be nice cause they are not able to. There is likie concrete in their thinking part of their brain. Maybe they are more "simple" than people think. Not that there is anything wrong with that but we may misread them and think they are rocket scientists or sumthin! LoL
Meow....being a bit of a bitch altho there may be an element of truth in what I say!

Thanks for the replies I feel a bit better now lol they are usually kool but a lot of them think breakin is all about power moves and thats all they seem to practice. I concentrate more on toprock and style aspects cos I really dont have the strength for power moves lol I wish I did have some bgirls to train with, but a lot of them are worse then the bboys and don't even want to talk to other girls!

hey Bgirlcy! u're not da only one out there who's got tis prob.. i do too. da bboys here in singapore usually cant b bothered w girls too and if u go ask them for tips or ask them to teach u, they'll just ignore u. but not everyone's like that! try approachin other bboys.. surely there's someone nice out there to help u in ur moves! and over here da bgirls are nicer than the guys cos we're all girls n we know how hard it is to learn when u first start out.... try lookin up girls to break w u.. breakin w company gives u much more motivation cos u guys are learnin and progressin together.. u can make great friends too! just ignore those mean guys, i'm sure there're nice people out there! u just gotta waitfor e opportunity to meet them!

what the?! to hell with shit like this! you break because you have the passion for it. and that's all that matters! no one started out being good! i'll say those boys are putting you down cos they are afraid you just might be better than them one day! just get out of their sight and session with someone else man! you don't need this!

yiwei: the bboys here are not all that unfriendly too. at least not the ones i hang out with. but maybe they take some time to warm up. cos even I tend to have the perception that girls who come up to me to ask me to teach them are not serious. erm.. not being stereotypical, but i've come across too many such examples. well, you just gotta prove to them, and yourself, that you're more than that.

keep your head up, all my bgirls!

jAws,

hmmm.. well, like i said. they take time to warm up to you. well put it this way. i mean, you can be new to the community. but understand that they are not obliged to make you feel welcome and all, you know? in other words, it's up to you to take the 1st step and try to get them to feel comfortable with you around. it's either that or you get your own company. pretty harsh but that's how it works. cos like i said, even I have my reservations about new girls. so let alone them.

hmm.. maybe i'm lucky in the sense that when i first started out, i started out with a few guys. so they acknowledged me right from the start. but it's ok. i'm sure if you keep at it, they'll accept you. they are pretty nice guys lah, trust me. i don't hang out with them too but i know that for a fact.

keep your head up girl. maybe we can meet up sometime.
