school problems - 09-12-2004, 04:30 PM

look, i grew up in a all black hood pretty much, but then something real bad happend and that scared the shit out of my mother so she moved to this all white town. I never been to an all white school and being mixed i feel like an outsider. i cant relate they dont like rap or r&b or breaking. And like all the cheerleaders hate me because i showed them up at a football game. Because there tumbling sucks and they know it and i told them and then i showed them mine wich was way better and i got major props but then one of the cheerleaders was like show off and like the whole crowd took their side. I just need to know how to relate and make friends with these people because i cant be a loner its not in my nature. And theres like nothing to do around her i used to be able to get to the mall in 7min now it takes 45min. ant advice on how to finish my junior year with out being so bored? And i'm failing math already this sucks i'm not going to get a good score on my sat.i want to go back to cleveland

i'm sure there are people that like hip hop somewhere there, its just a matter of finding them.

no offense, but i know as angry as cheerleaders may make you feel, showing them up is not perhaps the best of ideas. some teenagers get offended really easily and they are cliquish, so when you offend one, you offend them all....a group mentality so to speak.i didn't like that sort of mentality when i was in high school, i'm sure you'll find some like minded peeps. also, not all white people are that bad, nor will think any different of you because you aren't white, so don't put up the defensive on that issue or you may give out the wrong idea (i'm mixed too...well sort of ...arab and english)! you don't have to be a loner, just don't hand out with the big crowd, find some peeps who can think for themselves.
as how to not to fail, pay attention in class, and go for extra help if you don't understand something, failing is usually the result of an unwillingness to do these things, so don't let that happen to you...teachers are there to help you.

damn i''m so glad i'm not a teen anymore!

dont push me cuz i'm close to the edge, i'm tryin not to lose my head

13 - 18 , although i got a WHOLE lot done, were the worst years of my life hands down
i was picked on, hated on, hated people back... it was awful for the most part.

You'll make friends, tiny was right, showing people up isn't necessarily the best thing to do to make friends ( did you want to be friends with cheerleaders in the first place though? )
you might want to offer to teach a tumbling class in gym or something, Talk to your teacher

you';ll make it through , don't worry
it all builds character , i wouldn't be half as cool today if i didn't have such a shitty childhood

you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers

I know how it feels to be a black kid in a mostly white school, there were about 20 black kids in grades 6-8, but that was middle school and before I found out the harsh realities of high school. You don't really wanna hang out with the cheer people, cuz they suck. Nah, I'm just playin, but yeah, you could offer some tumblin help durin p.e. or summin. On the math note, I can't really help ya, cuz math is like, my thing. lol Well, not really, but when i struggled wit algebra durin 8th grade, I eventually went to tutoring, and I ended up making an "a" in the class. But, yeah, good luck, wish I could help ya out more. Just keep trying, it ebventually pays off.

wow, that has to suck big ass.

tinyD was right.

"... its just a matter of finding them."

I can relate in some ways. I remember feeling the exact way. I felt like such a loser with all the adidas gears and junk but i couldn't help it, it was me. it took me SOME time to realize -- that's just the way it's going to be. you can't pretend to be something you're not.

so ... i did my thing. and soon enough they found me and was interested. and then formed a afterschool breaking group.

so where i'm getting is that -- even when things are a bit grey and you feel like an outcast, just be you. because i think this 'breaker image' is dope as hell. maybe they're the ones out of place. it's how you see it.

you'll find them sooner or later. stay strong b.

I like school now, me and these two mixed girls, and a few of there friends wanted to start a dance squad. so we took took the idea to the priciples office and hes like if u get enough girls to do it, and the dancing isnt dirty, i think its a great idea. So i'm like thats cake, but at first we had trouble getting people to sign up because i guess that thought it would be embrassing from what i gathered. So, the five of us made up a routine and showed at their homecomming and there like that was tight i want to learn how to do that now we got people signing up like mad. and we didint even do anything special because there all beginners so i taught them like helicopters and cheek freezes and they did like summer saults into man splits and a bunch of poping and they thought it was the greatest thing in the world .but the best part is i actualey meet a bboy at the dance and hes a beasr hes like the only one though besides me but he has skill more then me wich isnt bad because i can learn from him. And i brought my c up to a b in math in case any one care and i finally got windmills down after server hip pins at times.

Took me a long time to understand white people....I am mixed also but grew up not figuring out what they were talking about. Didn't even bother looking in the mirror. I thought it was weird that they thought I was different. I went to 11 schools and didn't fit in any of them ....I just had to ride it out....too shy to do anything about it....took me gettin in my 20's and moving to the city to realise that I wasn't the only one(mixed). I couldn't express myself at all. Glad to hear that things are working for you now but for anyone else reading this....don't wait til you get older...be yourself now...so u don't suffer from your own ignorance....that was my trouble!

wow
maybe you can talk to your mom/counsellors about doing some correspondence courses ? or changing your school?

i don't think they'll help you out so much with that but if you show you're willing to make an effort to continue your education even though you've got major problems with your environment they might be able to come up with some other suggestions that might work.

are there any after school programs around where you are ? have you thought about joining the Y and taking some martial arts or dance programs there ? that'd get you some studio space and also help you to meet people who are at least interested in physical movement.
I honestly find it hard to believe that there is nobody interested in hip hop where you live - it's so big now, there's got to be a scene, you just need to find it.

moving is always hard but you get good skills by dealing with it and working through the ensuing problems
