i would say that.... the girls have a little bit more advantage than boys. why? b/c seeing a bboy bust, its u know...u see it as nothing right? and you dont see as much girls bboying. so its cooler and girls can be mean just like the boys, i think that the girls get more attention than bois...my oppion...
When you practice for it, you got love for it.

You're never too old to start! I know a lady 50 years old whose doing this and while she aint gonna battle anyone any time soon, she can do the sixstep and toprock with the best of em!

So cool reading about bgurl how are so experienced. Really inspires me...
I'm new here 2... I've been dancing for a while now... like dancing al kinds of stuff, dancehall, salsa, merengue, waltz, hip-hop etc... i'm a fast learner.. so i tried bdance.. and i love it.. i've been bdancing for about a month now.. learning freezes and stuff like that.. but i'm not sure what to start of with... Cause i once bdanced onstage but i only did the 6step...
What would be a great thing to learn next???
Teach me!!!

Well I've seen bgirls do stuff bboys at the same age can't do! For example, at this bboying competition at Algonquin College, this 8-year-old (or something) girl could do 180 degrees headspin, an OK windmill, and some real cool toprocking. The guys who were a bit older than her couldn't even do half of that ... They mostly did toprocking and a bit of footwork. No powermoves. My point is that bgirls are the same as bboys, although some physical limitations may be a bit difficult.

Platina, you still around?
How's things going for you now after some time and practice?
One life one tribe one love one blood
Too much has been shed its time to rise above
You don’t have to understand it and you dont have to like it
But were much more powerful when we're UNITED
Ignorance fight it Knowledge embrace it
Have sympathy for people who too scared to change shit
Dont talk it just live it
Enjoy life absorb every minute
Quit placing the blame
Put your mind towards change
Hold the torch, light the flame, make a difference
One love one nation lets get uplifted

yo - i wrote a guide for beginner breakers with particular reference to bgirls. Check it out if you like: http://blog.myspace.com/r2zee ( go to 'so you want to be a bgirl/bboy'). I'd appreciate feedback if you have any. It's a work in progress.

This are TIPS that I have come up with basing on my experience -
08-06-2006, 07:52 AM
Setting aside bitterness, i really feel bad that another person can disqualify me by my capability and potential as a breaker by my gender. But at the same time i'm challenged... If i only had the space, i'll give 'em what they want...Judging me wit the way I dress up and the way i talk, up your face!!!! Mad ... Anyways, just venting out...
well aside from that, other FACTORS like getting a period and having a chest is a slight disadvantage. Alot of freaking body changes, weight changes, mood and all that. I hate it! makes me wanna be a bboy. You have to carry 2 "extra" weights! (what the...?!) haha.. BUT there are few TIPS for the BGIRLS out there. this is from my experience:
*ALWAYS WEAR SPORTS BRA
- aside from the fact that it's hard to move and feel extra bounces (haha), ur still a girl, u have to take care of those babies (am i right bboys?)
*TIE THE HAIR/USE BANDANA (if it's that long)
- you don't wanna be doing extensions and step on your own hair.
*WEAR TIGHT BUT COMFY CLOTHES
- Unless you're a lesbo (no offense) try to avoid lose clothes for battles or showdowns.. as much as possible, show ur shape! that's the beauty of doing your thing as a bgirl. Eventhough you move like a girl, you'll hit it like a boy then you'll be the CHICK!haha
*KNOW YOUR CYCLE (PERIOD)
- Sometimes you'll feel like not practicing. Feel like just sitting around and just eat CARBS and you don't freakin recognize it. Then you load and you bloat! then it's hard to move. IF you're period is near already, do conditionings and cut back carbs (the craving is just temporary) just to maintain those muscles conditioned.
*MAINTAIN CONDITIONING
- Especially that girls have a lot of body / mood changes (which really sucks) before, during or after period, the fat tends to build up fast and sometimes you can't do anything about it if you don't know. So do sit ups and diet...handstands/handstand walk, headstands or whatever that will maintain your body's condition. it's really hard to fight it sometimes but that's the challenge
*JAM WITH THE BBOYS
- The only way to learn breaking is just doing it. It may be embarrassing at first, you may feel shy or whatever but that's just the start up. do stretchings first, jump around and just listen to the music... see HOW BBOYS do it. OBSERVE, LEARN it and PRACTICE IT then after warming up yourself THEN PRACTICE your own thing...Overcome your fears and JUST DO IT (NIKE) hehe
*FOCUS
- DON'T BE CONSCIOUS WITH THE WAY YOU LOOK...Just concentrate on the things that you gotta do (that is if you really wanna be a breaker) then CONFIDENCE will follow... Cause if you only wanna impress someone... Just turn around and go back home to "MOMMY"...HEHE
*LEARN IT ONE STEP AT A TIME (DON'T RUSH)
- There's no rush into anything... you may be slow to progress, but you're sure you're building a strong foundation. and that's the best thing of all. Make yourself strong.
*RESPECT and PRACTICE both comes as a NECESSITY
- if you can't understand that, then GO HOME and spend time with your family first
*STAY POSITIVE
- frustrations and disappointments are just there temporarily... real break world is tough, learn to deal with it but just do the right things. establish your own belief, stop being a hater and just focus on the right things.
*CELEBRATE YOUR PERFECTED MOVES
- always cheer up whenever you've perfected something... be proud but don't be loud but don't lock yourself with that, go ahead and learn some MORE!!!
So those are the tips that I can share... hope you girls learned something. If anyone opposes then just reply to this post. BBOYS learn this too so if you'll have a bgirl student or "bgrilfriend" (yiheeee) then this are really some good tips.
