Do you ever feel like maybe it's not meant for you to break(a curse) -
10-15-2003, 03:28 PM
I think that I have a curse on me or maybe I'm not meant to break...I always get back injuries...someone was like I just need to strengthen my back...but everytime I learn something like a new freeze or anything...and I'm advancing something always happens to me that prevents me from breakin...I have two back injuries...my left side has been hurting me for about two years now...and I hurt the left side of my back when I was first started out....and then a couple months ago...when I had learned about three new freezes and started trying to do things into or out of them...I mess up my back again....I think one if not both is a serious injury...but I don't have money to get it checked out...so for now all I can do is sit and wait for it to get better...can't do any freezes cause my lower back which I think is the serious injury hurts everytime I try to do a freeze...so if I do break the only thing I can work on is toprock and downrock

Also...I was thinking that once I get a job...I may take capeiroda(however it's spelled)...maybe it can help me work around my injuries...and then I can start back breakin if my back ever stops bothering me...and I've tried everything to make it feel better

If I were you, I would go to the doctors or just stop breaking for a bit and see whats up with my injuries
Being the only 5'7(154) Korean guy in my town sux... it sure gets the girls tho...
I'm practicing 4hours everyday and I'm yet to see any difference yet...
Bass Guitar is my passion... but breakin' is what I am.
I guess that's an ok sig... ?

Just take it slow then... Well, I'm teaching myself to break, I got no one to look up to in my neighborhood. I have a higher chance of injury if no one is there to teach me these moves or practice with me... so usually I take it slow..

IMO, shyt happens. I threw out my back when I was 15. I think I was in my prime in breakin, but I still didn't let that stop me. Just practice, stretch, and when your busting - try them slow at first so that your body can get used to the momentum. That way you can get the move and go faster if you want to without problems.

What do you know? I'm goin' into chiropractory....lol
(In order to spare me from giving false advice or false information, false organ names, etc. (Since I'm still in high school even, altho I read up on it now and then...) I won't give any ACTUAL names....and as for what the problem actually is, don't take it TOO seriously. It should be checked by a professional.)
What it sounds like is that you hurt a vital part of your back....lol
I suggest you have someone take a look at it.....ANYONE with some sort of medical background. If not, you could end up paralyzed.....if you've described a certain condition (One that is known to be caused from your neck pushing your spine towards your legs, particularly if you have a weak neck, and like to do head poses, or spins, etc.) then persistant repetition of the moves could one day jus cause a domino effect, and make you paraplegic. God forbid that's the problem, and it probably isn't (after all, you said you do freezes, not headspins), but you should get it checked anyways.
I didn't post this to in any way frighten or discourage you from breakin'. That is most definately NOT the problem, however I thought I'd give you one of the worst scenarios (That come from extended back pain.) If you want though, you CAN try some of the following things (1 at a time though). They might provide temporary relief on a day by day basis.
-Change your sleeping position (IE, sleep inverted)
-Sleep with a thicker or thinner pillow
-Get a massage.....believe it or not, you COULD just have a lot of tension in your back, as well.
For the first 2, check how your back feels in the morning NOW (before a change) for about a week, then change 1 thing, and check the difference (Right when you wake up.) If you feel better, keep it.....however these are all temporary solutions (Except possibly the massage......but I don't think back tension would last 2 years.)
I'll say it one more time to make sure you don't do anything foolish: I'm NOT a licensed chiropractor, I'm not even out of high school yet, and you should only act on the advice of a medical professional (Except for those 3 things I suggested. Those wouldn't hurt.). There....even bolded it. lol
Hope you get back in the swing of things. Peace.

Mowicz...even though you are not a chiro....your advice is still good...I'm going to try some of that stuff...I think it is tension or stress on the back...but it's getting mad worse...but I've noticed that when i put tension on my back is when it bothers me the most...but I know I have to get my lower back checked cause where it hurts is like dead on my spine...upper left I'm not that bother about...cause I think it's just my muscle that bothers me..all I know is that I want to continue walking
I know not to let an injury stop me from breakin...but I feel if I have to take a breakin or stop I will...my health is way more important than breakin
yea I'm in school for the person that asked

LP ... i think , that you might need to focus on healing your body , as opposed to pushing it , for a while
maybe sign a yoga book out of the library and start teaching yourself that - that can help to work out a lot of things
find a massage school in your area , they usually offer totally cheap massage bythe students and it's good stuff
take hot baths with epsom salts lot
and arnica internally
and when you can get to a chiro , GO AND DO THAT
good luck
you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers

Only thing I'd add.....
If you're gonna take hot baths with epsom salts, make sure you take a break from breakin'.....if breakin' is what's wreckin' your back, then the epsom salts'll loosen your muscles (in other words, it could temporarily weaken them....) and if your muscles can't take as much heat, then your back could take some more....so take like a week off if you wanna try some of that stuff...
Also, yoga's not so good if the problem's severe. It's a good way to prevent some problems, but if you already HAVE the problems, then Yoga's gonna be somewhat difficult for you to do properly, and if you do it improperly, you could make it worse.....so make sure you do it right. lol
Peace.
D'oh shit, I almost missed that...... DO NOT take arnica internally, it's toxic!
I'm sure electron jus made a mistake, cuz it WOULD make a nice salve or somethin' to massage into your back. I never would've thought of it either. Propz electron.
EDIT: Ok, I double checked, so I wouldn't look like an ass....lol.
Toxicity: The internal use of Arnica is not suggested. It can cause vomiting, weakness, increased heart rate and nervous disturbances.

injuries are very discouraging, well the bad ones are anyway. I have a wrist probem that won't go away, i finally went to a physio and apparently i have tendon damage that will take up to 10 months to be at breakin standards again, so, i'm very frustrated at the moment, because i'm a very bad patient, so i don't rest it and i get impatient and i try to make it better, or i try to break when it's not ready. So, i'm coming to the end of my teather at the moment now, and i'm losing my cool a little.
So i'm wondering where my breakin is at, i'm still practicin but it's annoying not being able to break with my main hand, my right.
