power moves - 01-02-2004, 02:42 PM

I think that power moves is something that every bgirl should learn. I think the problem is that some bgirls don't like to take as much time as they need to perfect it. I mean I started doing power like my second year of breakin. The first move I learned was , of course air flares....lol. Man I sucked so bad. My body was banged up so bad from doin it all the time. But my boyfriend kept on makin me do them . I wanted to just stop so bad because I thought I would never get them. But I didn't because for one I wanted to bust it out at this one jam and show that bgirls can do power but because I wanted to do it for myself. When I finally got them I was so proud of myself and it paid off.
Now when I bust out with like wrist 90's and air flares and headspins and other stuff, I feel so good. Not becuase I can do them but because I worked so hard to get where I am at today. That's what bein a bgirl is about. To be dedicated to breakin and not givin up because all the guys do it. Bgirls shouldn't just stick to footwork... Do it all. Power, footwork , freezes and everything else that a breaker represents and when you learn how to embrace alll those even though you may not do it as well as a guy , that's when you are a true bgirl....
p.s to exzeliur ..... No breakin is not about makin people look stupid , although people may think that.

It's great that you've gotten the skills down for yourself. It goes to show that breaking is all about patience and dedication, and for those who utilize those 2 aspects with much precision, I give them mad double props to them.

In a real battle, what really matters is the floor, and how you use it. I don't think stupid was the right term to use when battling one another. You'll always be faced with intimidation from who you're battling from, and when you bust your move, there's always gonna be someone to rebuttle against that. During the battle there's that disrespect that's passed around, in which gives the hope of one side to make the other side choke. And they'll use any means possible to make you screw up. Maybe even sexism.

However. There's also the respect factor. In the end they'll know that you've got skills and therefore they give you props. Sure, sometimes those b-boys will say 'Damn girl! You've got some sick skills for a girl!'

But like I said, this society is messed.

Air moves us.
Fire transforms us.
Water shapes us.
Earth heals us.

Breakin has taught me patience and what it is to be dedicated. For the jam thing what you say is true. Even though crews don't mean to disrespect eachother it still goes around here and there. It's kinda funny when I do jams because some guys under estimate me cause I am a gurl.
I entered a jam with the guys I break with. I was the only gurl rippin the floor when we did our last battle fort he competition. I didn't really use a lot of power in the previous battles that day. But this one pist me the f off. The guys were all mocking me cause I was a girl and I wasn't using power cause I was so sore competing all day. They were just like completly just disrespecting me. Man... I swear it was like the last round of the battle and it was mine to finish off. I pulled off one of the best combo of power and strength that I ever did. After that they were like hella stuck and they couldn'e belive it . But when I got home I was the most crippled person in america...lol

I really don´t think that bboys doesn´t respect us, bgirls... because most of them do. I have breaked mostly with bboys and they have a real respect for me and my friends because we break and do it as girls. I think that if bboy doesn´t respect bgirls as much as bboys, he should read and learn whole lot more about the culture around it and about the respection of every item of the hiphop culture!

I think the biggest problem b-girls have is trying to dance like boys... it annoys me when a girl grabs at her crotch like she has something there, i would never try and dance like a girl coz i'd look stupid... more girls need to embrace the fact that they are girls and dance accordingly, i have mad respect for bgirls that dance like girls. I have no time for b-girls that dance like they wanna be guys. god made us different and we should dance to our strengths, not try and immitate eachother. anyway it looks ugly even when a girl dances like a guy well. A girl with a moustache, no matter how fine a moustache it is, is still gonna be repulsive, the same holds true with breaking. I love b-girls like AYA, Anna and Sorina, coz they're girls and thats all they try to be, and they're great at it...
But yeah, if i see a girl dancing like a guy it's true, i wont rate her at all. And i dont give easy props to girls because there girls, i'd love to see a bgirl battle where acting like a man had you marked down and inverts weren't allowed, i think alot of highly rated bgirls would struggle...
So in relation to the topic, bgirls do exist, but they're few and far between in my experience. There are however loads of b-hermaphrodites. hahahaa

Props to BGirl Bemur for the rad moves and hard work.

This may seem a little arrogant and all but I don't call a bgirl a bgirl if the only thing they do is six step and babyfreeze. Sure they can do the basics and sure it is breakdancing...but they're only on their way to BECOMING a bgirl. "Bgirl" is like a title you gotta earn. My mate that took care of me for a couple of years...he's into the whole underground racing and stuff... he had to EARN his respect. It's the same with breakdancing. You ain't shit if you aren't willing to work for it. I hardly call myself a "bgirl" to others it's just in my names so you can tell me gender.

Even I have a few moves that I've worked hard for. It's all about makin it for yourself. Noone esle is going to give you airflares or 90's.

Any bboy that says there's no such thing as bgirls needs a kick in the nuts before he breeds. As BIMF said... it's definitly true that a lot of bgirls are overrated, and trying to be a man doesn't do it for the crowd either. I think guys who say there's no such thing as bgirls are just trying to express themselves wrongly. That or they're damn ignorant.

i never considered myself a bgirl, until i got the basics then actually worked towards something other than 6step myself. i never called myself anything, i dont call myself anything. bgirl---i dont call the boys i dance with bboys either, we jus dance. so i dunno where this is going but i dont even look at the titles, if i break i break fuck what i got between my legs.

As far as im concerned, everybody's who truly breaks is a bboy. Screw da whole bboy, bgirl gender thang.....if ur a guy, ur a bboy. If ur a girl, ur still a bboy. A bboy is break boy, OR someone who dances to the break. Not "guy" that dances to the break, but someone. Screw addin all these damn gender terms haha. Nuttin wrong wit da word "bgirl" tho...but yall are all bboys if u get wut im sayin. So NOBODY can say SHIT about whether u can break or not, cuz bboys are bboys, no matter the gender.
