Exclamation 14 year old from MA needing help!! - 01-10-2003, 10:09 PM

Ok this is going to be a kind of lengthy post.
First thing : I admire all you B-Girls and B-Boys from the bottom of my heart! You guys are sooo amazing and it takes so much practice and hard work to do what you guys do! Keep the good shit up!
Second thing : Not only do I admire the art involved in B-boying, but I want to get involved but have no idea where to start. There's so many aspects and parts of the whole scenerio I have no idea where I belong! What are the basic moves and necessities for it?
Third thing : Anyone from MA? No one near or around my town B-boys, so it's hard to practice. ANy advice?
Fourth thing : No one is taking me seriously. I really from the bottom of my heart want to learn to do this but the "problem" is I'm a raver/punk chick. No one is believing me and calling me a poser. I'm not! I really admire every aspect of this dance and all the people who do it! How do I get realized?
Fifth thing : This has nothing to do with B-Boying, but I Extreme Walk. Anyone in MA want to get together and extreme together?
Thanks a BUNCH for everyone who helps I appreciate it A LOT!! My email is fitterhappierorganism@yahoo.com and my AOL IM is xcarsontopx. Make sure it's Missy before you guys talk. THANKS!

Well I don't think they are calling you a poser because they think that you aren't dedicated.
Breaking is a Hip Hop art form and part of Hip Hop culture...to understand it you need to understand the culture, otherwise .....
the elders get REALLY mad.
Just letting you know what is going on...try to fing underground hip Hop albums...some of them have electro/punk kind of sounds...some don't but REAL Hip Hop no longer exists on the radio, ya dig.
Good Luck,

im from MA too - 01-12-2003, 02:17 AM

hey im from mass too, im gonna b at bitb 5 for sure. i had no idea there were a lot a breakaz in MA at least not in Acton (my aim is DJstylz if u want some tips on breakin)

i already posted this but i'll post it again just because i think its important to say: (btw bryan debinder is a poser u'll find out y thats important if u read this)
- A message to all tha up and comin breakaz out there:
I was like u a bit more than a year ago, i had no idea wtf i was doin or where i was goin w/ this, originally i started cuz i thought bryan debinder was a dick and i wanted to b better than him, which was tha wrong reason to break in tha first place. but i really got into tha hip hop culture, and i found that even after i could fucking smoke debinder i was still determined to get better. After many bruises and scars i got most of my power moves down, then i started workin for style, (i shoulda went the other way around, style then power but i was breakin solo so i had no idea) now, after more than a year, im mixin tha two bases for breakin together with unbelieveable power combos, freezes, toprock, and footwork. Not only have i matured as a breaker, and gained much respect for tha hiphop culture but also as a turntabilist, which was just as hard. tha point is, tha path to being a good breaka is hard and painful and takes many hours of learnin tha skillz and respetin tha culture and u'll probably get shit from a lot of ppl, includin urself but once u get there, ur gonna get respect for it and ur gonna reach a new level of self confidence.

Hey Acid, welcome to the community. To start out, look through the moves section and figure out what you're good at. Experiment w/ style, power, and stamina. Definitely understand the history (go to the first post in the beginner's forum for a good overview) and then build from there. You'll be great in no time. If you got any specific questions or you just wanna talk, my SN is "bloo min graped" and I'm on pretty regularly every day. Good luck and have fun!

for bboying, u need to exercise(not like crazy)enough to get ur abs and arms ready for any power move. You just build up from there.

why did u even bring that post back?

I knew something was wrong when both gyroe and plat were in this thread....than seeing BITB5? I went to that forever ago...

pointless to bring back

Dont bite the hand that feeds u, eventually everyone helping u will get annoyed...jesus.

Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

I dont agree with one of the posts where it said you must undersand the culture, well I do to some degree.. but you dont need to be a hardcore hip hopper to bboy. You can be who you are..punk style.. and go ahead and bboy, you bring your own style to it and thats what I call creativity.

My advice to you is watch as many videos as you can..here and bboyworld.com, check out extreme crew their awesome as well.. then start up practise sessions..start with 6 step and move on to other stuff. It wasnt long since I started so Im still learning full terminology.. but the internet helps a lot and dont be afraid to hold your own pracitices.
