Question What's up with the B-Girl Clothing Style? - 09-04-2009, 08:31 PM

Almost every B-Girl I have seen always dresses like a dude. I understand you girls want to be taken seriously, but it's disturbing. Girls should dress like how they usually dress, not just because they are going to a b-boy jam/competition.

It's the fact that B-Girls are expected to dress like boys that pisses me off. It's become a norm that came about when the first B-Girls stepped on the floor, no one took them seriously because they dressed feminine.

I understand y'all girls are trying represent, but this B-Girl style is whack.

Because girls are suppose to break in skinnies and tank tops instead of comfortable sweatpants and a tshirt?

Who the hell are you to question how one person dresses?

Eat. Sleep. Dance. Repeat.

And why do you think they don't dress like that in real life? If they're into the culture and take part in jams, I think it's safe to assume that they assimilate any, and all parts of bboying and live it on a regular basis.

It's you. Anyone who's experienced and unbiased wouldn't write them off because of what they were wearing on the day.

I fail to see how it represents wackness. Are you saying all bboys dress wack?

I'm pretty sure a lot of them do it for practical reasons as well. It's just easier to move around in those clothes. Actually I'm curious to hear what your opinion of "feminine" is.

Forget my opinions, answer the question. You must understand that I am not ranting, I am just stating my opinion and seeing what others think; preferably B-Girls.

Actually, this discussion would be more a lot more interesting if a girl was is in it.

Your question doesn't make any sense on it's own, which is why I answered the way I did.

what's up with bboys worrying about clothing/dresses??
stop, worrying about it and just bboy.

@topic,
so what's the real question here?
"why do girls dress like boys in bboying?"?

hmmmmm...first, why, what do you want them to wear??
so that you wouldn't be bothered anymore..

second, i think they dress like that because it's more comfortable to break to.
and that is they like bboying too much (in which we should be proud of coz girls love bboying as much as we do).but that doesn't mean that they dress like that always.

lastly, i think waiting for a girl answering your question is not really necessary anymore.
coz they might answer you with the same thing.

it's a matter of being open-minded and be a little more mature.

peace.lol.heheheheheh

Some people [eg. ME] always walk around in loose fitting clothes.
plus if we wore short shorts and fitting tanks people wont concentrate on our dancing!

And im the only bgirl in this Thread! I would know.

Ah, I know what you're playing at, Leef.

You want bgirls to wear uncomfortable clothing to sabotage their moves 'cos you don't like the competition. ;-)

When I break, I want people to notice me for my dancing, not my nice outfit.

I used to care a lot about how I looked when I danced. After a few years, I realized trying to dress up to break is a fruitless waste of time. You're going to look a fright by the end of the session. Your makeup's going to come off. Your hair is going to get messed. Your shirt is going to be drenched in sweat.

Instead of pretending that I can maintain an attractive appearance while breaking...I've tossed it all aside as it is an unnecessary distraction.

All I care about is the beauty of my dance: While I'm dancing, my own personal beauty is inconsequential. When I'm done, I want to hear "That was a hot set," and not "She looked hot doing that set."

That is why I wear tshirts to break, and not tube tops.

(Not that I can't whip out a nice tube top for the after party )

let the bgirl's dance do the talking, the outfit....dunno about that, but u can even break in uncomfortable clothing like tight pants....i've done it ...ehh dunno about u girls

Do NOT segregate power from style, just because it's easier
